David was born in Los Angeles, California but grew up in Scottsdale and graduated from Saguaro High School. He holds a bachelors degree from the Arizona State University School of Business and a masters in business administration from the Arizona State University WP Carey Executive Program. David resides in Fountain Hills with his wife Joyce and their two children. They attend Saint Maria Goretti Catholic Church.

Along with his role as a U.S. Representative, David runs a real estate business with his wife. 

David Schweikert currently serves as the US Representative for Arizona Congressional District 1. He was elected in 2022 and is serving his first term. Previously, David was the US Representative for Arizona Congressional District 6, serving five terms from 2012-2022. He was also the US Representative for Arizona District 5, serving one term from 2010-2012. He ran for US Representative for Arizona District 5 in 2008, but did not win. He served one term as the Treasurer of Maricopa County from 2004-2008. He served two terms on the Arizona State Board of Equalization from 1995-2004. He spent two terms in the Arizona State House of Representatives from 1990-1994.
