Amish was born and raised in Chicago. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Northwestern University, a medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School, and a master of public health degree from the University of California at Berkeley. He also graduated from the University of Arizona’s Sports Medicine fellowship program and is board-certified in Emergency Medicine and Sports Medicine. 

Amish currently works as a physician for his own medical practice. He previously worked as a faculty member, educator, and researcher at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. He also worked for LEK Consulting, LLC, an international strategy consulting firm. 

Amish Shah previously served as a member of the State House of Representatives for District 5. He was elected to this position in 2022 and served for 1 term. He also served as a member of the State House of Representatives for District 24. He was elected to that position in 2018 and served for 2 terms.
