Pennsylvania State Representative District 68 - VOTE411.org

Quentin Gee has announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for office in the PA House of Representatives for District 68.

A self-described “blue collar working man,” Gee is a combat veteran with 11 years of service between the Marine Corps and Army, including two deployments: the first in support of Operation Stabilize in 1999 and OEF in Afghanistan from 2103-2014.

Plans to partner with local and union leaders to bring long-term, high-paying manufacturing jobs to the area.

"I will do my best to keep AI data centers out of our area, keep the PA Wilds pristine and our water tables safe by working with local municipalities in creating zoning and ordinances to restrict the data centers," Gee said. “I will partner with local leaders and union leaders to bring high-paying manufacturing jobs to our area, jobs that will be long term, unlike the short-term jobs building data centers.”

Economy

What do you see as the most pressing issues facing residents of your district, and how would you address them?
Healthcare, Mental Health and Hyperscale data centers. We currently have a non-profit healthcare system in our region consisting of UPMC, Guthrie and Geisinger and because of this a program called charity care needs to be pushed to the public and make them aware of options available to them. Mental Health can be helped in our rural area by partnering with Keystone NAMI and establishing a local affiliate that would help cover the gap during the current 6-12 month wait time to get diagnosed and receive treatment Hyperscale data centers need to be put on pause through a statewide moratorium, that would then give local officials and leaders more time to pass zoning and ordinances to ensure the Hyperscale data centers remain out of our backyards

NAMI Keystone could help fill an important part of this gap.

I support a Northern Tier NAMI effort that could be designed specifically around rural realities rather than simply copying a program developed for Pittsburgh or another metropolitan area. NAMI Keystone could recruit and train residents of Tioga and Bradford counties as peer-support and family-support facilitators, establish regular meetings in communities such as Wellsboro, Mansfield, Towanda and Sayre, and supplement them with online meetings for people living farther away.

I'll work to improve local mental health services and access

These are lies coming from the executives at healthcare organizations in big cities, while our local healthcare administrators struggle to make things work with what they have.

I'll work for you to restore our local healthcare options and improve access for individuals, families and veterans.

Let's restore our local healthcare options and access

The local VA Clinic in Wellsboro still does not have a permanent doctor, and instead there is a rotation of doctors seeing patients.

We will create opportunities for the VA and UPMC along with our other local healthcare networks to partner with community care to continue giving our veterans the care they need and working together to bring a full time permanent doctor to the VA clinic.

Advocates for public outreach to increase awareness of charity-care options.

Supports a rural National Alliance on Mental Illness affiliate in the Northern Tier to provide peer and family support while people wait for mental-health diagnosis and treatment.

Plans to pursue partnerships among the Department of Veterans Affairs, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and local networks to secure a permanent doctor for the Wellsboro Veterans Affairs clinic.

Gee is also a proponent of protecting agriculture and family farms, especially in light of other areas in Pennsylvania where farmland is being taken by eminent domain and state game lands are being sold to build AI data centers.

Should the state legislature enact laws concerning the impacts on water, energy, or land use from the development and operation of data centers? Would state regulation of data center development and operation interfere with the authority of municipalities to establish ordinances under the MPC (Municipal Planning Code)?
Yes, the state should set base standards and then allow for the municipalities to make more stringent rules and regulations. The argument that it would interfere with the authority of the municipality is outright propaganda. We must remember that there is always another municipality downstream that can be affected by those upstream, toxins and pollution will always travel downstream. We currently see PA residents covering the energy costs and grid upgrades for the data centers in VA, there needs to be laws enacted to stop this practice and return rates in PA to a more reasonable price.

Proposes a statewide moratorium on large-scale data centers to allow local governments time to adopt zoning and ordinances.

Supports state standards for data-center impacts while allowing municipalities to adopt stricter local regulations.

Calls for laws to prevent Pennsylvania residents from paying energy and grid-upgrade costs for data centers in Virginia.

Public Safety

What changes, if any, would you support to enable better access, ensure security, and support the processes of our elections?
We must continue to allow for mail in balloting to include both types, they are No Excuse mail in ballots and Absentee ballots. Continue to provide proper poll worker training and informing voters of their rights on election day, especially when and how to ask for a provisional ballot, this will ensure their voices are heard and their votes are counted.

Supports continuing no-excuse mail-in and absentee ballots.
