About Abby

Focused on cutting government spending and protecting Second Amendment rights, Rep. Abby Major was first elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives after a May 2021 special election.

In the current legislative session, Abby serves on the House Consumer Protection, Technology and Utilities; Housing and Community Development; Intergovernmental Affairs and Operations; Liquor Control; and Professional Licensure committees.

“Currently, there is a lack of clear guidance making it difficult for local governments to establish parameters by which tiny houses would be permissible and permanent single-family dwellings,” Major said “Due to housing affordability problems we are experiencing, we need to look for ways to help communities that want to provide for tiny houses. I’m hopeful this legislation will advance quickly.”

The bill would amend Act 45 of 1999 to require the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry to promulgate regulations adopting Appendix Q “Tiny Houses,” part of the 2018 International Residential Code. In addition, the bill would only apply in a municipality that elects to adopt Appendix Q by ordinance.

Major proposed legislation to increase the grading of the offense of stalking from a misdemeanor to a felony when the victim is a minor and the defendant is an adult who is at least four years older than the minor victim.

“While all stalking is serious, victimization of children by adults adds another layer,” Major said. “There should be enhanced penalties when the victim is a minor. Child predators should not be given a slap on the wrist. The age dynamic needs to be weighed heavily.”
