Jim, his wife Robin live at Historic Pine Gables off Boys Camp Road. Jim is a native of Lake Lure. Their home is listed on the National Historic Registry, has been owned by Jim's family for more than one hundred years and has been a tourist lodging facility for more than two hundred years. Together they operate Pine Gables Cabins, a family business started in 1947.

Jim Proctor is a candidate for the Lake Lure Town Council in North Carolina in the 2026 elections. He has previously served on the council and is running for re-election.

2026 North Carolina General Election

The town council did an excellent job managing the town's budget to provide necessary services while keeping the tax rate as low as possible. Every year Jim has met with county officials and lobbied to keep the state sales tax distribution the way it is now. If the sales tax distribution was changed the loss to the town would be hundreds of thousands of dollars per year.

With Town Hall flooded, the first council meeting after the storm was held on the back porch of the old inn at the property's entrance. Proctor is also a town commissioner. “That's kind of the story of Lake Lure right now,” Proctor said. “Places to stay, places to eat are open and lovely. And also we're still in recovery ... We want people coming back.”

Expanded the Zoning Administration into its own department and recently hired more staff to address our zoning issues. Completed several major dredging operations to help keep our lake safe and usable. Created a new soil erosion ordinance that allows the town to enforce much needed erosion controls.

As I have said many times before, the mayor, council, manager and other town employees don’t run the town, we all do. As mayor, I enjoyed working with the town council, the town employees and most of all the citizens of Lake Lure. I always took time to listen to the citizens of Lake Lure and relayed your wants, wishes and concerns to the council and manager. I look forward to continuing my work with the town and hopefully having a role in keeping Lake Lure a great place to live.
