Brian K Lewis lives in Unincorporated Wake County where he and his family run a small-scale farm. Brian has previously served as a Supervisor for the Broward (Florida) Soil and Water Conservation District and is a veteran of the US Navy. For the past 22 years he has worked full time for a large telecommunications company and has also actively volunteered for Greenpeace, the Sierra Club, as well as the Wake County and North Carolina Libertarian Parties.

Meet Brian Lewis - Brian Lewis S&W

Brian K Lewis lives in Unincorporated Wake County where he and his family run a small-scale farm. Over his years of experience Brian founded a commercial compost research company, a cloth diaper service, and a concierge coffee company. Of all his accomplishments Brian is most proud of children and of the volunteer ethic he has instilled at work and among his civic activities and says they are an extension of a tenant of his faith – Tikkun Olam – “To Heal the World.”

Brian K. Lewis works full time for a large telecommunications company. He founded a commercial compost research company, a cloth diaper service, and a concierge coffee company, and is a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Soil and Water Conservation Districts have a long history of providing local farmers with access to the latest innovations in farm management and assisting implementation. Helping our large and small farmers to deploy these cost savings and yield improvement techniques is key to sustaining a local farming industry.

But it’s not just about farms. Helping homeowners and local water managers preserve a clean and sustainable water supply not only makes a sustainable future feasible here in Wake County but it’s the responsible thing to do to protect all our downstream neighbors as well.

- A soil and water conservation district supervisor is 1 member of a board of 5 supervisors that works to improve the soil and water quality in the county through education. 
- The board of supervisors provide technical and financial assistance to help land users maintain their land and surrounding ecosystems. 
- The board of supervisors design long term conservation programs that teach environmental care, pollution reduction, and provide incentives for using these practices, especially for agricultural workers. 
- The board of supervisors provide short term educational services like competitions, field days, and workshops to educate the public on conservation. 
- Soil and water conservation district supervisors are elected to 4 year terms in non-partisan races. However, 2 of the board members are appointed by the state soil and water commission.
