Alec Brook-Krasny was elected to the New York State Assembly on November 8, 2022. The 46th Assembly District includes part of Kings County.

After first running for state Assembly in 2000, and setting a record for write-in votes in the City of New York with 1,800 votes, Alec was first elected to the state Assembly in 2006, and represented Coney Island, Bay Ridge, and Dyker Heights.

In 2013, Alec’s colleagues named him the Vice-Chair for Majority Steering and Chair of the Assembly Task Force for New Americans. After nine years of successfully representing his constituents, Alec left the Assembly in 2015 for family reasons.

Alec was elected to the New York State Assembly in 2022. He was first elected to the Assembly in 2006 and left office in 2015. He first ran for the State Assembly in 2000.

Collaborating with our regional, national, and local lawmakers, I have been a vocal supporter of small businesses in our neighborhood. I have made sure that companies all around our district receive the assistance they require by promoting public-private partnerships and streamlining the application and distribution procedures for small company grants. To ensure the survival of restaurants and other vital businesses, we need to think outside the box when it comes to income sources and consider equitable options.

It is reasonable for us New Yorkers to think that our state is the best in the union. However, we are only as strong as our weakest member, and this is healthcare in our instance. We are ranked 20th in the country for accessibility to healthcare, which means that unidentified urgent care clinics instead of prestigious hospitals and skilled primary care physicians receive point of treatment. A simple case of food poisoning, or worse, a potentially fatal bacterial infection, may go untreated in the absence of continuity of care, which makes it difficult to provide medication effectively. We must expand the reach of our Health and Hospital System.

Public Safety

We should be able to walk the streets of our city without fear. It is alarming that there has been a recent rise in violent crimes, especially hate crimes committed against minorities, and this needs to be addressed quickly and forcefully. Simultaneously, we need to keep up the crucial task of improving the justice, fairness, and accountability of our criminal and legal systems. I'm devoted to fighting against the failing bail reform movement since it has shown to be bad for our state and directly contributed to the rise in crime and recidivism in our community.

Now in his second stint as an Assemblymember, Alec Brook-Krasny has fought to restore funding to the New York City Police Department, rebuild our criminal justice system, reverse bail reform, lift struggling schools, support small businesses, and help the middle class recover from the economic downturn.

Those who are too young to speak for themselves are frequently the underrepresented members of any community; in New York City, this includes the underfunded services and educational institutions that serve them. Because of this, the government needs to make sure that policies improve the lives of young people in New York and our school systems. It also needs to act with consideration for today's kids. We need to get New York City's Public School systems the funding it is owed, expand school choice, and fund better after school programming for all students.

I am fully aware of the problems that our community's citizens face. For a district like ours to remain pleasant and prosperous, there must be a sufficient supply of reasonably priced homes. I've made it my top goal to advocate for housing that serves all income levels. I'm immensely happy of the work we've accomplished, and I'll keep making it my goal to defend tenants and assist small landlords in my district.
