Public Services

Supports impact fees that require new development to help fund police, fire, parks, and other city services.

The result was an impact fee ordinance that has developers pay $3,000 per unit when they build new homes in the city. That money is split three ways between the police department, fire department and parks and recreation and goes into an account that is separate from the city budget account.

“The impact fees are to help growth pay for growth,” Deyer said. “When new development comes to our city, it impacts our police and fire and parks and recreation. While we want to keep up with our growth, we need to keep up with the protection that we have and also the everyday living.”

Housing & Urban Development

Calls for the transportation department to complete safety improvements at the Y intersection.

One area Deyer would like to see worked on is the “Y” intersection at Ky. 29 and Ky. 1268, especially with the four-lane expansion of U.S. 68 headed for Wilmore.

“We’ve had so many accidents at the Y, and I hope that the transportation department can finish the project rather rapidly to fix the Y intersection,” she said. “That needs to be addressed because while it made it safe up the road at (Ky. 169) and (Ky. 29), it still needs to take this project a little further for protection at the Y.”

Transportation & Infrastructure

Proposes a training facility for Wilmore's volunteer fire department.

There have been several developments approved by the Jessamine County/City of Wilmore Planning and Zoning Commission, and once those come to fruition, the impact fees will begin to accumulate and fund some larger projects that Deyer has in mind.

“We have a volunteer fire department, and perhaps we might need to look into a training facility for them,” she said. “These guys are not full-time; they are in one facility on Linden Street. On Thursday nights when they have their meetings and their training, they pull their trucks out, and I’d like to see that perhaps the council could add onto the building or find some kind of building for them to have their training.”

Public Safety

Supports city cooperation with Asbury College and Asbury Theological Seminary to access state and federal funding for projects.

Deyer said that the way the council works together and in conjunction with the two higher education institutions, Asbury College and Asbury Theological Seminary, is one of the strong points of this council.

“We try our best to work very well with the institutions, and we’ve served as a conduit for passing money through the city for them to get state and federal funds,” she said, citing the future pedestrian walkway at the seminary and the proposed communications building at the college. “I think that has helped our town to be strong. It helps everybody get along, and it’s a good working relationship that we have with those institutions.”
