Josh grew up in Cudahy, Wisconsin. He was raised by working-class parents, who instilled in him the values of fairness and compassion. Josh is a proud graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and a dedicated member of the Riverwest community. Currently running for Alderperson in Milwaukee's 3rd District, Josh brings a diverse background from working in the service industry to corporate training, and leadership in customer operations.
He first became involved in politics during the Act 10 protests. His family was profoundly affected by the legislation, which threatened public sector unions. It sparked Josh’s desire to advocate for workers’ rights and fueled his commitment to political activism. This activism grew to encompass a wide range of issues including environmental sustainability, democratic reforms, and an extensive list of social issues. He currently manages a team of technical customer advisors for a waste management company. Josh is driven by a desire to make meaningful change and is focused on creating a more inclusive, equitable, and environmentally conscious future for all.

Reckless driving continues to be a threat to the safety of our streets, putting pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers at risk. I will advocate for increased enforcement of traffic laws, especially in high-risk areas, as well as the installation of sensible traffic calming measures such as speed bumps and improved street designs. Additionally, we must expand community engagement initiatives to educate drivers and encourage responsible road behavior. Stronger penalties for reckless driving and the use of innovative traffic design will help deter dangerous driving behaviors.

A recent study showed that Milwaukee residents pay more for utilities than residents in any other major city. It’s time to move towards public ownership of our energy services. Under public control, we can prioritize affordability, sustainability, and local investment over profits. Public ownership ensures that our money stays in our community, reducing utility rates for families and businesses. It also provides greater accountability, enabling us to respond directly to the needs of Milwaukee residents including increasing renewable energy sources. Investments in public transit, safe pedestrian walkways and bike lanes will also be a key component of a greener and more connected city.

Lead contamination in Milwaukee’s water system remains a pressing concern, especially in older homes. I will advocate for a comprehensive plan to replace lead service lines citywide. We need to remove the lead laterals at no cost to homeowners and ensure that all residents have access to clean, safe drinking water without the burden of lead exposure. The current efforts to replace these have been inadequate and far too slow. The timeline for replacement has to be dramatically shortened. Ensuring clean water is a fundamental right, and I will work relentlessly to protect the health of our residents.

Additionally, I will push for greater transparency in city government, making sure that residents have easy access to information on city budgets, ongoing projects, and key decisions that affect their lives.

I will fight to secure funding for our community-owned public schools, which continue to face the threat of privatization. Our public schools serve all students, and it is critical that we strengthen and protect them. I will work to hold charter and voucher schools accountable, ensuring they meet the same high standards as our public schools, particularly in areas like teacher compensation, the inclusion of special education students, and the treatment of LGBTQ+ students. We must ensure that all schools, regardless of their funding source, provide quality education for every student. I will collaborate with MPS and local unions to ensure that teacher compensation is competitive, helping to retain the best educators and ensure fair outcomes for all. Our democracy is strongest when all voices are heard. I am a firm supporter of ranked-choice voting (RCV) to ensure that every vote counts and that candidates are elected with true majority support. RCV eliminates the "spoiler effect" and empowers voters to make their choices without fear of wasting their vote. Additionally, I will fight to ensure access to the ballot box for all residents, defend voting rights, and advocate for transparency and accountability in local government.

Marijuana law reform is essential to address the disproportionate impact of criminal penalties on poor and marginalized individuals and communities. I will support eliminating fines for marijuana possession to help reduce unnecessary financial burdens, especially for low-income individuals. It will help to prevent the criminalization of behavior that is increasingly seen as socially acceptable.

Battling Preemption Laws
Milwaukee should stand up against Wisconsin’s preemption laws because they undermine local democracy and the city’s ability to respond to the unique needs of its residents. The Wisconsin Constitution grants local governments the authority to manage their own affairs, except in matters of statewide concern. However, the vague definition of "statewide concern" has allowed the state legislature to overreach, restricting Milwaukee from enacting progressive policies on crucial issues like housing, labor rights, gun safety, and environmental protections. It's time for Wisconsin’s cities and counties, including Milwaukee, to assert their right to govern locally, challenge these restrictive laws, and reset the debate on the balance of power between the state and local governments. By doing so, Milwaukee can lead the way in defending local control and advancing policies that benefit its diverse population.

Public ownership ensures that our money stays in our community, reducing utility rates for families and businesses. Our democracy is strongest when all voices are heard. I am a firm supporter of ranked-choice voting (RCV) to ensure that every vote counts and that candidates are elected with true majority support. RCV eliminates the "spoiler effect" and empowers voters to make their choices without fear of wasting their vote. Additionally, I will fight to ensure access to the ballot box for all residents, defend voting rights, and advocate for transparency and accountability in local government.

Marijuana law reform is essential to address the disproportionate impact of criminal penalties on poor and marginalized individuals and communities. I will support eliminating fines for marijuana possession to help reduce unnecessary financial burdens, especially for low-income individuals. It will help to prevent the criminalization of behavior that is increasingly seen as socially acceptable.

Milwaukee should stand up against Wisconsin’s preemption laws because they undermine local democracy and the city’s ability to respond to the unique needs of its residents. The Wisconsin Constitution grants local governments the authority to manage their own affairs, except in matters of statewide concern. However, the vague definition of "statewide concern" has allowed the state legislature to overreach, restricting Milwaukee from enacting progressive policies on crucial issues like housing, labor rights, gun safety, and environmental protections. It's time for Wisconsin’s cities and counties, including Milwaukee, to assert their right to govern locally, challenge these restrictive laws, and reset the debate on the balance of power between the state and local governments. By doing so, Milwaukee can lead the way in defending local control and advancing policies that benefit its diverse population.

Our democracy is strongest when all voices are heard. I am a firm supporter of ranked-choice voting (RCV) to ensure that every vote counts and that candidates are elected with true majority support. RCV eliminates the "spoiler effect" and empowers voters to make their choices without fear of wasting their vote. Additionally, I will fight to ensure access to the ballot box for all residents, defend voting rights, and advocate for transparency and accountability in local government.
Marijuana Laws
Marijuana law reform is essential to address the disproportionate impact of criminal penalties on poor and marginalized individuals and communities. I will support eliminating fines for marijuana possession to help reduce unnecessary financial burdens, especially for low-income individuals. It will help to prevent the criminalization of behavior that is increasingly seen as socially acceptable.

Battling Preemption Laws
Milwaukee should stand up against Wisconsin’s preemption laws because they undermine local democracy and the city’s ability to respond to the unique needs of its residents. The Wisconsin Constitution grants local governments the authority to manage their own affairs, except in matters of statewide concern. However, the vague definition of "statewide concern" has allowed the state legislature to overreach, restricting Milwaukee from enacting progressive policies on crucial issues like housing, labor rights, gun safety, and environmental protections. It's time for Wisconsin’s cities and counties, including Milwaukee, to assert their right to govern locally, challenge these restrictive laws, and reset the debate on the balance of power between the state and local governments. By doing so, Milwaukee can lead the way in defending local control and advancing policies that benefit its diverse population.

Public safety is not only about law enforcement, but also building a community where people feel secure, supported, and valued. My approach to public safety will be multifaceted, focusing on prevention, intervention, and community collaboration.

Traffic Safety
Reckless driving continues to be a threat to the safety of our streets, putting pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers at risk. I will advocate for increased enforcement of traffic laws, especially in high-risk areas, as well as the installation of sensible traffic calming measures such as speed bumps and improved street designs. Additionally, we must expand community engagement initiatives to educate drivers and encourage responsible road behavior. Stronger penalties for reckless driving and the use of innovative traffic design will help deter dangerous driving behaviors.

We must prioritize building trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve. Community policing practices should be at the forefront of our strategy, ensuring that officers are not only visible but actively involved in the neighborhoods they patrol. I will push for training programs that emphasize de-escalation tactics, cultural competency, and mental health crisis response. Officers should be held to the highest standards of accountability, and I will advocate for greater transparency and independent oversight in policing practice.

Mental health is integral to public safety. Many of the challenges we face in our communities, including violence and substance abuse, are associated with untreated mental health issues. I will work to expand access to mental health services, ensuring that individuals in crisis receive the support they need. This includes advocating for a network of mental health professionals and trained responders to intervene when necessary, particularly in situations where police presence is not required.

Substance abuse continues to devastate our neighborhoods. A proactive and compassionate response is necessary to address addiction while maintaining public safety. I believe that every resident deserves efficient, accessible, and reliable city services that improve quality of life, promote public health, and foster community well-being. A well-functioning city is built on strong infrastructure, equitable access to resources, and responsive government. I will ensure that city services are accessible to everyone including people with disabilities, seniors, and non-English speakers. In order to build a city that truly serves its residents, we must engage communities in every aspect of decision-making. I will ensure that residents' concerns are heard and addressed. Additionally, I will work to foster partnerships with local organizations, schools, and businesses, so we can ensure that city services reflect the needs of the people.

I believe Milwaukee must take bold action to ensure our utilities serve the people, not corporate interests. I fully endorse the Power to the People campaign. A recent study showed that Milwaukee residents pay more for utilities than residents in any other major city. It’s time to move towards public ownership of our energy services. Under public control, we can prioritize affordability, sustainability, and local investment over profits. Public ownership ensures that our money stays in our community, reducing utility rates for families and businesses. It also provides greater accountability, enabling us to respond directly to the needs of Milwaukee residents including increasing renewable energy sources. This transition should maintain all current union contracts and no outside companies should be allowed to take any union jobs. Milwaukee’s infrastructure is the backbone of our city. Too many neighborhoods face deteriorating roads, potholes, and crumbling bridges that pose risks to public safety and hinder economic development. I will prioritize a comprehensive infrastructure plan that addresses the most urgent needs in our neighborhoods. Investments in public transit, safe pedestrian walkways and bike lanes will also be a key component of a greener and more connected city.

Lead contamination in Milwaukee’s water system remains a pressing concern, especially in older homes. I will advocate for a comprehensive plan to replace lead service lines citywide. We need to remove the lead laterals at no cost to homeowners and ensure that all residents have access to clean, safe drinking water without the burden of lead exposure. The current efforts to replace these have been inadequate and far too slow. The timeline for replacement has to be dramatically shortened. Ensuring clean water is a fundamental right, and I will work relentlessly to protect the health of our residents.

Government should work for the people, and that means ensuring responsiveness to residents' needs. I will make constituent services a priority and ensure that every resident’s voice is heard. Whether it’s a request for a pothole repair, a public safety concern, or assistance with city services, I will ensure that all residents have a dedicated point of contact and that their concerns are addressed in a timely and effective manner. Additionally, I will push for greater transparency in city government, making sure that residents have easy access to information on city budgets, ongoing projects, and key decisions that affect their lives.

I will work to hold charter and voucher schools accountable, ensuring they meet the same high standards as our public schools, particularly in areas like teacher compensation, the inclusion of special education students, and the treatment of LGBTQ+ students.
