As a member of the Common Council, I will work to replace We Energies with a municipal or cooperative utility using Chapter 197 of the Wisconsin State Statutes. Public schools in this city have been under attack for decades. As a member of the Common Council, I will take action to cease the City of Milwaukee’s chartering of schools, and I will publicly and procedurally fight any attempt to eliminate the democratically elected school board of the City of Milwaukee, including a city, state or mayoral takeover. While MPS needs accountability and reform, Milwaukeeans are united by our public schools and I will oppose breaking up the district in any fashion.

There is a severe housing affordability crisis in Milwaukee, and it affects all the city’s working class residents. People cannot live fulfilling lives under the constant fear of losing their homes, through eviction or inability to pay. As a member of the Common Council, I will publicly advocate for the building of affordable, safe, and dignified public housing, hold the city Housing Authority accountable, and will always stand up to landlords and support tenants in any housing issue brought before the city. Additionally, I will fight to increase the city’s contribution to Eviction Free Milwaukee, which provides legal counsel to Milwaukee tenants facing eviction.

With reckless driving rampant, crime appearing more present than before, and an incoming far-right President who is bent on attacking marginalized communities, Milwaukeeans want the city they call home to feel secure. That means eliminating poverty, tackling systemic oppression, improving city infrastructure, increasing public and affordable housing, improving mass transit, welcoming immigrant communities, and supporting those who are marginalized.

When I was the president of the substitute teacher’s union, I won healthcare benefits for substitute teachers by going on a 21-day hunger strike. The workers who make our city function deserve these same rights, and I will ensure that they are never overlooked and always receive a fair deal from any legislation, budget, or policy. As your alderperson, I will defend city workers’ rights to living wages, quality benefits, labor protections, and a great work environment.

AS YOUR NEXT ALDERMAN, I WILL WORK ON TOP ISSUES THAT ARE AFFECTING ALL OF US INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING (IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER):
AN EAST SIDER THAT WILL FIGHT FOR EAST SIDE FAMILIES!
Understanding the great shoes that must be filled; It is with the utmost humility, pleasure, and gratitude of a lifetime that I accept the opportunity to be considered as your next Alderman for the 3rd District.
Let me start by introducing myself.
My mother was a stay at home mom while my father worked hard between two jobs to ensure that we had everything we needed. He taught me that nothing is ever handed to you in life, if you want something; you have to work hard for it.
In my youth, I was an active member of the scouting program from Kindergarten to age 20. I achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in January of 2002.
I attended college in Boca Raton, FL where I studied Political Science and Business. I later went back to college and attained a degree in Orthopedic Technology. I have been in the public sector for about 12 years and currently work at Children's Wisconsin in the Orthopedic Department since 2020. 
I have been proud to call the Milwaukee East Side my home for the last six years.
My care for my community, neighbors, and city runs deep. Our beloved East Side is great. Our people are even greater and continuously striving to make our city as a whole, even better.
I am a firm believer in standing up and fighting for what is right. That is why, over this past summer; I took it upon myself to create a one person neighborhood watch when our neighborhoods were being terrorized by individuals with a complete disregard for our property and vehicles that we work so hard for.
That is why I choose to run to be your next Alderman.

I fought in the streets for neighbors I didn't know and I will fight even harder for all; in City Hall.
I hope for neighbors to join me in upholding the true meaning of Milwaukee's name; "The Good Land".
In my free time, I enjoy disc golfing with friends at Estabrook Park, riding my bike with my son on the Oak Leaf Trail or down at the lakefront, traveling, and taking in a Brewers, Bucks, or Packers game.

Over the summer, our district experienced an epidemic of car break-ins. Broken auto glass was a common sight all across the East Side. Car break-in reports soared and little was being done to address the issue. I took it upon myself to head to the front lines and become a one man neighborhood watch. I patrolled the streets late into the night with a mission to hunt these criminals who were destroying property and terrorizing our neighborhoods. When I spotted individuals checking vehicle door handles and even actively breaking vehicle windows; I would immediately call it in to Milwaukee Police and report the location and description of the individuals.
 
Milwaukee Police did end up eventually making several arrests and the issue greatly subsided.
I am a dedicated fighter for what is right. I took the fight for my fellow Milwaukeans to the literal streets in the middle of the night for free and I will fight even harder at City Hall.

ABOUT DANIEL
I was born and raised in Milwaukee’s Sherman Park neighborhood at a time when it was still a model of stability—middle-class, diverse, and full of opportunity. But I also watched as my city changed. Good-paying jobs disappeared, public resources shrank, and the North Side, where I grew up, was steadily starved of investment. From an early age, I developed a deep appreciation for Milwaukee’s history—especially its legacy of good, clean government that once worked for its people. I also became aware of the systemic issues that needed to be addressed to make that legacy a reality again.
By the time I was a teenager, I was already engaged in Milwaukee’s biggest challenges. At 16, I worked on a documentary about segregation in the city, gaining firsthand insight into how deeply inequality was embedded in our neighborhoods. Around the same time, I began joining my mother in her activism—marching in anti-war protests as a child and later helping her with volunteer work at NARAL. These experiences shaped my belief that real change comes from both grassroots action and policy reform.

In college, I continued this work. I was a member of the Memorial Union Labor Organization, and I helped push for university divestment from sweatshop labor, learning how advocacy could create tangible shifts in power. After graduating with a degree in History and Religious Studies from the University of Wisconsin, I served as an AmeriCorps VISTA member in Brooklyn, NY. There, I worked to expand access to critical services for immigrant communities, fought for increased funding in neglected neighborhoods—testifying before the New York City Council—and joined efforts to curb NYPD over-surveillance of Arab-American communities in the years following 9/11. I was also active in movements opposing stop-and-frisk policies and took part in Occupy Wall Street. Through this work, I saw firsthand how government policies, for better or worse, shape the daily lives of the people they serve.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, my family and I returned to Milwaukee. Shortly after, I joined Mayor Cavalier Johnson’s team—first as a volunteer, then as deputy campaign manager, and later as a Staff Assistant in the Mayor’s Office. In this role, I worked on reckless driving prevention, community development, and neighborhood outreach, partnering with Business Improvement Districts across the city to strengthen local communities by building up communal gathering spaces. My return to Milwaukee also coincided with the nationwide protests following the murder of George Floyd. Like so many others, my family and I marched in Milwaukee’s streets, and I made it a priority to help my children understand why.

After leaving the Mayor’s office, I began coursework for a Master’s in Urban Planning at UW-Milwaukee. There, I helped launch the Center for Equity Practice and Planning Justice—a necessary initiative aimed at dismantling segregation in declining cities like Milwaukee. Outside of work and school, I continued my commitment to local activism—leading a tree-planting campaign in Gordon Park, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, and serving on the board of Garfield's 502 Rhythm & Blues Festival.
Today, my family and I live in Riverwest, where my children attend Milwaukee Public Schools. I remain involved in my community through organizations like the Riverwest Investment Cooperative, Habitat for Humanity, and Garfield’s 502 Rhythm & Blues Festival. My deep roots in Milwaukee and my work in both grassroots organizing and city government have given me the perspective and experience to fight for a city that works for everyone.
Milwaukee was once a national model for good governance—one that put its people first. We need leadership that reflects that again. As your Alderman, I will fight for transparent, effective governance, advocate for the most vulnerable, and push for real investment in communities that have been left behind. Our approach to underserved neighborhoods over my lifetime has only resulted in more under-resourced communities. That has to change. I’m running to build a Milwaukee that is safer, more inclusive, and more just—because this city deserves nothing less.

SAFE & SECURE COMMUNITIES
Safety starts with security, but it also starts with feeling welcome. Milwaukee cannot thrive unless every resident, in every neighborhood, feels safe—whether walking to work, biking with their family, or waiting for a bus. That means addressing reckless driving, supporting our first responders, and ensuring public spaces are well-maintained and accessible. But public safety is more than policing—it’s about investing in the root causes of crime, from economic opportunity to youth engagement and strong community connections.
I support implementing Vision Zero strategies to eliminate traffic-related deaths and injuries, working with neighbors to improve street design and enforcement measures. I will also advocate for expanded public safety strategies that prioritize intervention, prevention, and mental health resources—because safety means different things to different people, and we need a holistic approach.

Discrimination in any form has no place in Milwaukee. That includes ensuring protections for our LGBTQ+ neighbors and standing in full support of our trans community. Safety is about more than crime statistics—it’s about making sure everyone, regardless of background, identity, or income, feels like they belong in our city.
EDUCATION & YOUTH INVESTMENT
As a proud graduate of Milwaukee Public Schools (Rufus King High School) and now as a parent of MPS students, I believe deeply in the importance of strong public schools. Access to high-quality public education should not be determined by zip code, and as alderperson, I will work to ensure that every child in Milwaukee has the resources they need to succeed.
I believe our focus should be on strengthening and fully funding public education. That includes securing more state and local funding for special education, mental health resources, and general aid for MPS.
While policing in schools should be a decision made by MPS, not outside forces, we must also recognize that too many schools feel more like carceral spaces than educational ones. We should be investing in youth programs, after-school activities, and community-led violence prevention efforts that provide real opportunities for young people.
Education is at the heart of opportunity, and as a city, we need to be doing more to support families and students.
HOUSING FOR ALL
Everyone deserves access to safe, stable, and affordable housing. But for too many people in Milwaukee, housing is becoming out of reach—whether it’s renters facing skyrocketing costs, long-time residents being priced out of their own neighborhoods, or first-time homebuyers struggling to compete in a tight market.

I will work to elevate the rights of renters, homebuyers, and working families in the 3rd District and across the city. That means advocating for policies that prevent displacement, expanding access to homeownership opportunities, and holding bad landlords accountable. It also means being creative in how we fight for resources—because Milwaukee is too often left behind when it comes to state and federal funding.
I've been engaged in issues of segregation and equitable city planning since I was a teenager, and most recently, I helped launch UWM’s Center for Equity Practice and Planning Justice, which works to dismantle segregation and promote community wealth-building. We cannot isolate low-income communities and expect different outcomes. Quality housing—whether affordable, workforce, or market-rate—is a right. Housing stability is directly tied to safety, economic opportunity, and community well-being.
This district needs a leader who understands how to secure investment without sacrificing affordability. As your Alder, I will push for more inclusive development that meets the needs of all residents, ensuring that we grow without pushing people out.
A THRIVING LOCAL ECONOMY
Milwaukee’s commercial corridors should be the backbone of our local economy, but we need to do more to support small businesses and entrepreneurs. We should be fostering development that brings more people into our neighborhoods, creating walkable, vibrant districts where businesses can thrive.
I will work to ensure Milwaukee acts like a real city—one that prioritizes local businesses, builds pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, and welcomes new neighbors into our communities. That means ensuring our streets and public spaces encourage foot traffic, supporting workforce development initiatives, and making it easier for small businesses to get started and succeed.

This approach wasn’t about ideology—it was about practical, people-first governance that prioritized safe streets, high-quality public services, and responsible city planning. We need leadership that embraces this tradition again.
That means being proactive in addressing the needs of residents, ensuring transparency and accountability at every level of city government, and making sure that everyone—no matter their background—has a voice in decision-making. We used to have city services that were the envy of the nation, and I want to restore that standard by increasing city staffing, bringing key services back in-house, and making local government more accessible to the people it serves.
As your Alder, I will be committed to real community engagement—not just during election season, but every single day. I will work to ensure that residents in the 3rd District feel safe, respected, and listened to, and that Milwaukee makes decisions with people—not special interests—at the center.

Josh grew up in Cudahy, Wisconsin. He was raised by working-class parents, who instilled in him the values of fairness and compassion. Josh is a proud graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and a dedicated member of the Riverwest community. Currently running for Alderperson in Milwaukee's 3rd District, Josh brings a diverse background from working in the service industry to corporate training, and leadership in customer operations.
He first became involved in politics during the Act 10 protests. His family was profoundly affected by the legislation, which threatened public sector unions. It sparked Josh’s desire to advocate for workers’ rights and fueled his commitment to political activism. This activism grew to encompass a wide range of issues including environmental sustainability, democratic reforms, and an extensive list of social issues. He currently manages a team of technical customer advisors for a waste management company. Josh is driven by a desire to make meaningful change and is focused on creating a more inclusive, equitable, and environmentally conscious future for all.

I will advocate for increased enforcement of traffic laws, especially in high-risk areas, as well as the installation of sensible traffic calming measures such as speed bumps and improved street designs. Additionally, we must expand community engagement initiatives to educate drivers and encourage responsible road behavior. Stronger penalties for reckless driving and the use of innovative traffic design will help deter dangerous driving behaviors.

A recent study showed that Milwaukee residents pay more for utilities than residents in any other major city. It’s time to move towards public ownership of our energy services. Under public control, we can prioritize affordability, sustainability, and local investment over profits. Public ownership ensures that our money stays in our community, reducing utility rates for families and businesses. It also provides greater accountability, enabling us to respond directly to the needs of Milwaukee residents including increasing renewable energy sources. Investments in public transit, safe pedestrian walkways and bike lanes will also be a key component of a greener and more connected city.

Lead contamination in Milwaukee’s water system remains a pressing concern, especially in older homes. I will advocate for a comprehensive plan to replace lead service lines citywide. The current efforts to replace these have been inadequate and far too slow. The timeline for replacement has to be dramatically shortened. Additionally, I will fight to ensure access to the ballot box for all residents, defend voting rights, and advocate for transparency and accountability in local government.

Marijuana law reform is essential to address the disproportionate impact of criminal penalties on poor and marginalized individuals and communities. I will support eliminating fines for marijuana possession to help reduce unnecessary financial burdens, especially for low-income individuals. It will help to prevent the criminalization of behavior that is increasingly seen as socially acceptable.

Battling Preemption Laws
Milwaukee should stand up against Wisconsin’s preemption laws because they undermine local democracy and the city’s ability to respond to the unique needs of its residents. The Wisconsin Constitution grants local governments the authority to manage their own affairs, except in matters of statewide concern. However, the vague definition of "statewide concern" has allowed the state legislature to overreach, restricting Milwaukee from enacting progressive policies on crucial issues like housing, labor rights, gun safety, and environmental protections. It's time for Wisconsin’s cities and counties, including Milwaukee, to assert their right to govern locally, challenge these restrictive laws, and reset the debate on the balance of power between the state and local governments. By doing so, Milwaukee can lead the way in defending local control and advancing policies that benefit its diverse population.

I am strongly committed to creating a safer Milwaukee where every resident can live without fear of violence or harm. Public safety is not only about law enforcement, but also building a community where people feel secure, supported, and valued. My approach to public safety will be multifaceted, focusing on prevention, intervention, and community collaboration.

Reckless driving continues to be a threat to the safety of our streets, putting pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers at risk. I will advocate for increased enforcement of traffic laws, especially in high-risk areas, as well as the installation of sensible traffic calming measures such as speed bumps and improved street designs. Additionally, we must expand community engagement initiatives to educate drivers and encourage responsible road behavior. Stronger penalties for reckless driving and the use of innovative traffic design will help deter dangerous driving behaviors.

We must prioritize building trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve. Community policing practices should be at the forefront of our strategy, ensuring that officers are not only visible but actively involved in the neighborhoods they patrol. Officers should be held to the highest standards of accountability, and I will advocate for greater transparency and independent oversight in policing practice.

Mental health is integral to public safety. Many of the challenges we face in our communities, including violence and substance abuse, are associated with untreated mental health issues. I will work to expand access to mental health services, ensuring that individuals in crisis receive the support they need. This includes advocating for a network of mental health professionals and trained responders to intervene when necessary, particularly in situations where police presence is not required.

Substance abuse continues to devastate our neighborhoods. A proactive and compassionate response is necessary to address addiction while maintaining public safety. I believe that every resident deserves efficient, accessible, and reliable city services that improve quality of life, promote public health, and foster community well-being. A well-functioning city is built on strong infrastructure, equitable access to resources, and responsive government. I will ensure that city services are accessible to everyone including people with disabilities, seniors, and non-English speakers. In order to build a city that truly serves its residents, we must engage communities in every aspect of decision-making. I will ensure that residents' concerns are heard and addressed. Additionally, I will work to foster partnerships with local organizations, schools, and businesses, so we can ensure that city services reflect the needs of the people.

I believe Milwaukee must take bold action to ensure our utilities serve the people, not corporate interests. I fully endorse the Power to the People campaign. A recent study showed that Milwaukee residents pay more for utilities than residents in any other major city. It’s time to move towards public ownership of our energy services. Under public control, we can prioritize affordability, sustainability, and local investment over profits. Public ownership ensures that our money stays in our community, reducing utility rates for families and businesses. It also provides greater accountability, enabling us to respond directly to the needs of Milwaukee residents including increasing renewable energy sources. This transition should maintain all current union contracts and no outside companies should be allowed to take any union jobs. Too many neighborhoods face deteriorating roads, potholes, and crumbling bridges that pose risks to public safety and hinder economic development. I will prioritize a comprehensive infrastructure plan that addresses the most urgent needs in our neighborhoods. Investments in public transit, safe pedestrian walkways and bike lanes will also be a key component of a greener and more connected city.

Lead contamination in Milwaukee’s water system remains a pressing concern, especially in older homes. I will advocate for a comprehensive plan to replace lead service lines citywide. We need to remove the lead laterals at no cost to homeowners and ensure that all residents have access to clean, safe drinking water without the burden of lead exposure. The current efforts to replace these have been inadequate and far too slow. The timeline for replacement has to be dramatically shortened. Ensuring clean water is a fundamental right, and I will work relentlessly to protect the health of our residents.

Government should work for the people, and that means ensuring responsiveness to residents' needs. I will make constituent services a priority and ensure that every resident’s voice is heard. Whether it’s a request for a pothole repair, a public safety concern, or assistance with city services, I will ensure that all residents have a dedicated point of contact and that their concerns are addressed in a timely and effective manner. Additionally, I will push for greater transparency in city government, making sure that residents have easy access to information on city budgets, ongoing projects, and key decisions that affect their lives.

I am committed to making Milwaukee a cleaner and greener place to live.

As your Alderman, I will strongly advocate for public education in Milwaukee. I will fight to secure funding for our community-owned public schools, which continue to face the threat of privatization. Our public schools serve all students, and it is critical that we strengthen and protect them. I will work to hold charter and voucher schools accountable, ensuring they meet the same high standards as our public schools, particularly in areas like teacher compensation, the inclusion of special education students, and the treatment of LGBTQ+ students. We must ensure that all schools, regardless of their funding source, provide quality education for every student. I will collaborate with MPS and local unions to ensure that teacher compensation is competitive, helping to retain the best educators and ensure fair outcomes for all. Milwaukee is home to many diverse communities, each with their own unique needs. I will fight to protect our neighbors, whether they are low-income families, immigrants, people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, or those with disabilities. I will work to ensure safe, equitable, and inclusive communities by promoting policies that combat discrimination, ensure access to quality healthcare and education, and reduce barriers to participation in civic life. Every person in Milwaukee deserves to be treated with respect, dignity, and equality.

Our democracy is strongest when all voices are heard. I am a firm supporter of ranked-choice voting (RCV) to ensure that every vote counts and that candidates are elected with true majority support. RCV eliminates the "spoiler effect" and empowers voters to make their choices without fear of wasting their vote. Additionally, I will fight to ensure access to the ballot box for all residents, defend voting rights, and advocate for transparency and accountability in local government.
Marijuana Laws
Marijuana law reform is essential to address the disproportionate impact of criminal penalties on poor and marginalized individuals and communities. I will support eliminating fines for marijuana possession to help reduce unnecessary financial burdens, especially for low-income individuals. It will help to prevent the criminalization of behavior that is increasingly seen as socially acceptable.

Battling Preemption Laws
Milwaukee should stand up against Wisconsin’s preemption laws because they undermine local democracy and the city’s ability to respond to the unique needs of its residents. The Wisconsin Constitution grants local governments the authority to manage their own affairs, except in matters of statewide concern. However, the vague definition of "statewide concern" has allowed the state legislature to overreach, restricting Milwaukee from enacting progressive policies on crucial issues like housing, labor rights, gun safety, and environmental protections. It's time for Wisconsin’s cities and counties, including Milwaukee, to assert their right to govern locally, challenge these restrictive laws, and reset the debate on the balance of power between the state and local governments. By doing so, Milwaukee can lead the way in defending local control and advancing policies that benefit its diverse population.

Reckless driving continues to be a threat to the safety of our streets, putting pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers at risk. I will advocate for increased enforcement of traffic laws, especially in high-risk areas, as well as the installation of sensible traffic calming measures such as speed bumps and improved street designs. Additionally, we must expand community engagement initiatives to educate drivers and encourage responsible road behavior. Stronger penalties for reckless driving and the use of innovative traffic design will help deter dangerous driving behaviors.

In order to build a city that truly serves its residents, we must engage communities in every aspect of decision-making. I will ensure that residents' concerns are heard and addressed. Additionally, I will work to foster partnerships with local organizations, schools, and businesses, so we can ensure that city services reflect the needs of the people.

I believe Milwaukee must take bold action to ensure our utilities serve the people, not corporate interests. I fully endorse the Power to the People campaign. A recent study showed that Milwaukee residents pay more for utilities than residents in any other major city. It’s time to move towards public ownership of our energy services. Under public control, we can prioritize affordability, sustainability, and local investment over profits. Public ownership ensures that our money stays in our community, reducing utility rates for families and businesses. It also provides greater accountability, enabling us to respond directly to the needs of Milwaukee residents including increasing renewable energy sources. Milwaukee’s infrastructure is the backbone of our city. Too many neighborhoods face deteriorating roads, potholes, and crumbling bridges that pose risks to public safety and hinder economic development. I will prioritize a comprehensive infrastructure plan that addresses the most urgent needs in our neighborhoods. Investments in public transit, safe pedestrian walkways and bike lanes will also be a key component of a greener and more connected city.

Lead contamination in Milwaukee’s water system remains a pressing concern, especially in older homes. I will advocate for a comprehensive plan to replace lead service lines citywide. We need to remove the lead laterals at no cost to homeowners and ensure that all residents have access to clean, safe drinking water without the burden of lead exposure. The current efforts to replace these have been inadequate and far too slow. The timeline for replacement has to be dramatically shortened. Ensuring clean water is a fundamental right, and I will work relentlessly to protect the health of our residents.

Additionally, I will push for greater transparency in city government, making sure that residents have easy access to information on city budgets, ongoing projects, and key decisions that affect their lives.

Our public schools serve all students, and it is critical that we strengthen and protect them. I will work to hold charter and voucher schools accountable, ensuring they meet the same high standards as our public schools, particularly in areas like teacher compensation, the inclusion of special education students, and the treatment of LGBTQ+ students. We must ensure that all schools, regardless of their funding source, provide quality education for every student.
