She is a mother of four, with a daughter in the North Carolina National Guard and a son in the US Navy, and she moved to North Carolina to care for her elderly parents.

Janene (Dublin) Ackles began her professional career writing technical manuals for CACI, a government contractor, before transitioning to writing government contracts. This experience laid the groundwork for her subsequent 20-year career in non-profit consultancy and grant writing, as well as business ownership. Additionally, she has worked as a community college instructor and newspaper proofreader/editor.
