Ed earned his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, and he has an executive business certificate from the University of Notre Dame. He served on the advisory board for the North Carolina Biomanufacturing Training and Education Center at NC State University.

Ed is a business owner and consultant. He has managed large construction projects and supervised the engineering and maintenance functions of major industrial companies.
