Steve is from New Bern and attended New Bern High School. He has a degree in business administration and management from Craven Community College. He lives in New Bern with his wife Jana. 

Steve is the owner of Tyson Group Realtors in New Bern. He was in the U.S. Army from 1973-1976. 

Steve Tyson currently serves as the N.C. Representative for District 3. He was elected in 2020 and is serving his second term. He is the Deputy Majority Whip, chair of the Transporation, Finance, House Advanced Air Mobility Caucus, and HOA committees, and vice chair of the commerce committee. 
He spent 12 years as a Craven County Commissioner, with two terms as Chairman.

Steve Tyson is the N.C. Representative for District 3 and has served as a Craven County Commissioner, including two terms as Chairman. He has over 35 years of experience as a licensed General Contractor and Real Estate Broker, and is the owner of Tyson Group Realtors in New Bern. Additionally, he has been involved in the restructuring of the Craven County Economic Development Department.
