Bob was born in Salinas, California. He holds an associate’s degree from a California Community College, a bachelor's degree in theology and Greek from the Moody Bible Institute, a master's degree in communication from Wheaton College, and a doctorate degree in sociology from The Catholic University of America. He is married to his wife, Teri, with whom he has children. 

Bob is retired. He previously worked as a professor at East Carolina University. 

Bob Edwards' campaign for Pitt County Commissioner in District B is his first run for public office.
