Charles grew up in the Shiloh community and attended A.C. Reynolds High School. He and his wife Anesa have two children. 

Charles is the pastor of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in the Burton Street Community. He previously worked as the operations manager for Home Depot. 

Charles Martin applied for appointment to the Buncombe County Board of Education in 2024, but was not selected.
