Ryan Morgan (Morgan County Sheriff, Georgia, candidate 2024)

Ryan He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Public Safety from Mercer University, and a Masters of Public Safety Administration from Columbus State University. He is married to his wife, Rebecca, with whom they have three children. Their family are members of Centennial Baptist Church in Rutledge. He served as a coach for baseball, football, and softball in Morgan County. 

Ryan is a retired law enforcement professional. He held positions with the Lawrenceville Police Department as Captain and Lieutenant. He previously served as a Police Officer with the Madison Police Department. 

This is Ray Morgan's first entry into politics.

Ryan Morgan has been a resident of Morgan County for 37 years and is married to Rebecca, a Special Education teacher at Morgan Co. Elementary School. They have been married for 20 years and have three children, Christopher, Colton, and GeorgiaAnn, who all attend schools in Morgan County. The Morgan family are members of Centennial Baptist Church in Rutledge.

Ryan Morgan has extensive experience in law enforcement and public safety education. He holds a degree in Criminal Justice, a Masters of Public Safety Administration, and is a certified P.O.S.T. General instructor and Driving (PIT) Instructor. Ryan was selected to attend the 242nd session of the FBI National Academy. His professional background includes fighting crime and training elite officers.

The candidate's website says, "Ryan Morgan has committed his 25-year career to protecting and serving on the frontlines... He got his start with the City of Madison Police Department and then continued it with the City of Lawrenceville Police, where he worked for 22 years before retiring as a Captain. In that time, Ryan managed and supervised all aspects of the department, including budgeting and policy development and implementation."

The County Sheriff is an elected official who acts as the chief law enforcement officer in their county. They are tasked with operating the county jails, keeping courtrooms secure during trials, and keeping the public safe through proper law enforcement. Each Sheriff's Office in Georgia may look a little different in how they hire and run their teams, but all County Sheriffs have the same duties. These duties include the following:

- Operating the county jail
- Providing court security
- Serving civil papers
- Executing arrest warrants
- Providing primary law enforcement within unincorporated areas of the county
- Working with city law enforcement officers to keep municipalities safe

The County Sheriff and their office are unique to other law enforcement agencies in that it has to answer to the people it serves. Historically, a turnover in the Sheriff’s office will likely result in noticeable change within the office, so voting for this office is a very effective way to vote approval or disapproval for how county law enforcement is conducted.
