Deidra has been a resident of DeKalb County for over 30 years, where she also completed her elementary, middle, and high school education. She received an associate's degree in middle grades education from Georgia State University, a bachelor's degree in humanities and a master's degree in English from Clayton State University, and a Master of Divinity from Emory University. Deidra is a parent, and her daughter is currently enrolled in a middle school in District 3 of the county. 

Deidra has worked as a teacher for the past four years. She previously owned her own business, the American Hair Factory.

Deirdre earned her B.A. degree in English from Spelman College. She is a member of the East Lake Family YMCA Board of Directors, Georgia PTA Board, and local School Councils. She was the President of the DeKalb County Council of PTAs when it was one unit, She is a Social Justice Ministry Chair at Ray of Hope Christian Church and is married with 5 children and 2 grandchildren.

She worked for Delta Air Lines, Inc. for 33 years and was a substitute teacher in DeKalb County schools.
