David Scott is from Aynor, South Carolina. He has lived in Pennsylvania, New York, and Florida through out his young years. He received a bachelors of arts from Florida A&M University in 1967, and a masters of business administration from the University of Pennsylvania in 1969.

He is the owner of an advertising business called Dayn-Mark Advertising. He also created a PBS Emmy-award winning television product called "Langston!" and he created and voiced the national radio program "Inside Black America."
