Earnestine is originally from Georgia. She has a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Spelman College and a master's degree in education from Georgia State University. She has been married for 54 years to her husband, Melvin. They have two children, three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Earnestine is retired. She used to be a high school mathematics teacher in the Atlanta Public School system.

She was elected mayor in 2009 and was in office until 2013. She previously ran for city council in 2019 but did not win.

Myron is retired. He used to be the assistant property manager at Greenbriar Mall. He also used to be a manager at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia. He served in the U.S. Army as a member of the military police stationed in South Korea.
