About Dr. Elba Garcia, Dallas County Commissioner

Elba Garcia was born in Mexico City. She has a doctor of dental surgery from the Texas A&M University College of Dentistry and a PhD in odontology from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana. She is married and has two sons.

Elba is a dentist and educator with her own dental practice. She previously served as an assistant professor at the Baylor College of Dentistry.

Elba Garcia is currently a Dallas County Commissioner representing District 4. She was first elected in November 2010 and is serving her fourth term. She is chair of the Dallas County Criminal Justice Advisory Board (CJAB), the DWI Task Force, the New Life Opportunities Board, the Dallas County Facilities Management Committee and the North Texas Behavioral Health Authority (NTBHA). Garcia previously served on the Dallas City Council representing District 1, where she was elected in 2001 and was unanimously chosen by her colleagues to serve as Deputy Mayor Pro Tem and Mayor Pro Tem, becoming the first Latina to hold those positions.
