Fernando Hinojosa is from Alvin, Texas. He has a bachelor 's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas at Tyler and a master 's degree in education administration from Lamar University. He is married and has three children.

Fernando is an engineer and education nonprofit leader. He previously worked as an AP Physics teacher, science department head, and instructional coach for Alvin ISD. He also served in federal legislative and policy roles in Washington, D.C., where he worked on research, oversight, and workforce development initiatives. He has also led large-scale STEM and workforce development initiatives at the nonprofit level. Fernando is also a volunteer firefighter.

Fernando is a firefighter with the Alvin Volunteer Fire Department. He previously worked as a physics teacher at Alvin High School and served as the Science Department Head. He previously worked as an engineer for Chevron and for the United State Senate as a finance committee fellow. 

Fernando previously served as an Alvin ISD teacher.
