For 22 years, I’ve dedicated my career to healthcare, currently serving as the Director of Radiology at a Houston hospital. I am also a proud mother to two children, and our chocolate lab, CJ.

My Policy Proposals: Repeal Texas’s Total Abortion Ban and Replace it with Gestational Limits Based on Medical Consensus. Restore abortion access up to the point of fetal viability (~18 weeks) with clear exceptions for maternal health and fetal abnormalities. This aligns with medical best practices and constitutional protections previously affirmed in Roe v. Wade.

Family Planning

Establish Legal Protections for Healthcare Providers. Enact legislation that shields medical professionals from criminal prosecution when providing abortion care under defined medical circumstances. Clarifying legal standards will allow doctors to practice medicine without fear of imprisonment.

Invest in Reproductive Health Infrastructure and Education. Expand access to family planning, contraception, and comprehensive sex education to reduce unintended pregnancies. Reproductive health policy must be proactive, not just reactive.

MCGEE: House District 132 is a swing district. If given the opportunity to serve, my very first move would be to reach out to the voters for whom I was not their first choice. It is important to me that the citizens of Katy and Cypress know that, while I am a Democrat, I do not plan to govern strictly along party lines if there is something that does or does not make sense for our district. Overhaul Testing: Reduce reliance on high-stakes STAAR tests, which disproportionately harm low-income and minority students, and replace them with holistic assessments (e.g., portfolios, growth metrics).

I am a Democrat. If you have historically identified with the Republican Party, stick with me.  It is more important now than ever that we unite to tackle the issues that we do agree on, starting with ending the push for school vouchers in Texas once and for all. It’s also why I vow to be a voice for all, and not a select few.

Fight Privatization: Ban new charter school expansions unless they meet the same transparency and equity standards as public schools, and end voucher programs that siphon funds from public education.

Increase Funding and Ensure Equity — Boost State Funding: Reverse decades of underfunding by raising the state’s contribution to public education beyond the current ~40% (with local property taxes and federal funds covering the rest). Aim for a 50-50 state-local split to reduce reliance on inequitable property tax revenue.

Revise the School Finance Formula: Reform the Foundation School Program to prioritize additional resources for low-income districts, English language learners, and students with disabilities. Use a weighted funding model to address disparities in places like rural South Texas or urban Houston.

Support Teachers and Staff — Raise Teacher Salaries: Increase average teacher pay from ~$58,000 (below the national average) to at least $65,000 statewide, with bonuses for those in high-need subjects (e.g., STEM, special education) or underserved areas like the Rio Grande Valley.

MCGEE: If alternate educational institutions wish to operate in Texas and offer students opportunities outside of traditional public schooling, that should be permitted, but it needs to be clear that to access public tax dollars, these will be non-profit institutions. Next, we have to bring our teacher salaries up to 10% above the national average.

Fully Fund Benefits: Restore full state funding for teacher healthcare and pensions, reversing cuts made in recent years, to retain experienced educators.

MCGEE: Third, with healthcare costs rising to the point where they have all but erased the most recent teacher raises, it is time to allow educators, both current and retired, to access the same healthcare plan as other State of Texas employees.

Reduce Classroom Sizes: Hire more teachers and aides to lower student-teacher ratios (currently averaging 15:1) to 12:1 in elementary schools, improving individualized attention.

Universal Pre-K: Establish free, full-day pre-K for all 4-year-olds (and eventually 3-year-olds), building on current programs that only serve some low-income families.

Wraparound Services: Fund school-based health clinics, counselors (1 per 250 students vs. the current 1 per 400+), and social workers to tackle hunger, mental health, and family instability—key barriers to learning in Texas.

After-School Programs: Allocate grants for enrichment like tutoring, arts, and sports, especially in districts where 52% of students are Hispanic and may lack access to extracurriculars.

Close the Digital Divide: Provide every student with a laptop and high-speed internet, funded by state and federal partnerships, addressing the 20% of Texas households without broadband access.

MCGEE: Weatherization, diversification and accountability. We can no longer pretend that Texas is not an extreme weather state and shrug our shoulders when the power fails. Electric providers in this state absolutely must be held to higher performance standards; for instance, by using a percentage of up/downtime measurement, and face large penalties when those standards are not met.

MCGEE: We can no longer have the attitude that allrenewables are bad renewables or all fossil fuels are bad fossil fuels. Deploy oil and natural gas where it makes sense, wind and solar when it makes sense, and continue to look into other energy resources such as nuclear to support continued growth.

MCGEE: They are a net negative to our state. It doesn’t mean that we don’t have the expansive land in Texas to accommodate them, but not without protections. Want to build a data center? Great. Find land that is a regulated distance away from existing communities.
