Originally from Decatur, Mississippi, Aicha gained an acute awareness of educational disparities from an early age, lighting a fire within her to become the catalyst for the change she wished to see. Aicha started her career as a public school teacher in the trailers of Baton Rouge post-Hurricane Katrina. State Representative Aicha Davis was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 2024 by the voters of House District 109. Aicha started her career as a public school teacher in the trailers of Baton Rouge post-Hurricane Katrina. At the urging of local parents and fellow educators, Aicha ran for the State Board of Education in 2018 and was elected in a landslide victory. As the sole Black woman to serve on the SBOE at that time, Aicha defeated the MAGA agenda’s efforts to rewrite science and erase history in our school textbooks.

After serving for six years, Aicha realized it was time to take her fight to the next level. With the support of her community, Aicha was elected to the Texas House in another landslide victory.

Aicha currently serves as the Texas state representative for District 109 and was elected in 2024. She previously served on the State Board of Education after being elected in 2018, serving for six years.

Aicha supports reforming our outdated, ineffective, and costly criminal system into one that is preventative, rehabilitative, reduces recidivism, and stops profiteering from incarceration.

It is time to revisit our penal code and remove outdated language, end mandatory minimums, and protect the rights of pre-trial defendants, including the right to bail. Due process and pre-trial rights are under attack in Texas. In America, you are innocent until proven guilty -- that should be the case in Texas too.

Texas has a privatized foster care system which means the state contracts with private entities to oversee our foster care services. Sadly enough, there were children in Dallas County whose needs were ignored, whose health and safety were compromised, and it was simply unacceptable. Aicha learned that the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) lacked the enforcement mechanisms to address the situation and there were legal insufficiencies preventing them from acting quickly. Aicha teamed up with a conservative state senator to pass a historic package of three bills that give DFPS the tools they need to act quickly in the defense of children and to hold the contractors accountable.

Aicha revived the Texas Mental Health Professional Loan Repayment Program to provide student loan relief to mental health professionals in high need areas, including psychologists, therapists, and school counselors. Aicha also directed the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to develop a pipeline for more professionals to be rapidly trained right here in Texas to fill our mental health workforce needs.
