student enrolled in a public school is $6,160. I would
limit new charter applications. Charter schools re 32ceived an additional $1,058 per student. This means
students in need of additional support may not have
access to it. For example, may mean the difference
between hiring a full-time speech therapist or con 32tracting limited services.

Coretta believes that our kids should be taught the truth about our history and respect fact-based science. She recognizes that our kids need multiple paths to a high school diploma. Coretta understands that standardized tests, like the STAAR, do not accurately measure intelligence.

School Curriculum

Drawing on her 27 years of classroom experience, if elected, Mallet-Fontenot plans to address the running deficit budget within District 4 schools to prevent additional teacher layoffs, program and service cuts, and overall school closures. She also plans to hold TEA Commissioner Mike Morath accountable for his takeover of Houston ISD, which has resulted in the plummeting performance of many elementary schools within the district.

education. Currently, I am pursuing my doctor 32ate in education. I have served as the District Advi 32ory Committee Co-chair and am a former Cam 32pus Teacher of the Year.

- Members of the Texas State Board of Education (SBOE) set statewide education policy, including approving graduation requirements, selecting textbooks and instructional materials, overseeing the state’s Permanent School Fund, and approving or vetoing charter school applications. 
- Board members participate in rule-making, review and adopt academic standards, and offer final approval on educator certification and other statewide education regulations. 
- SBOE members are elected from geographically defined “education districts.” Under normal circumstances, they serve staggered four-year terms.
