Bob McCoy is from Fort Worth, Texas. He has a bachelor's degree in engineering physics and a master's degree in mathematics from Texas Tech University. He also has a law degree from the University of Houston. He is an adjunct professor at Texas Wesleyan University School of Law.

Bob is currently a judge of the Tarrant County Criminal Court at Law No. 3. Before that, he served as a justice on the Texas Second Court of Appeals from 2003 to 2014 and as a judge of the 48th District Court from 1995 to 2003.
