The Colony City Council Place 5 — VOTE411 Voter Guide ...

Matthew currently works as a general manager.

What is your vision for transportation infrastructure in the city and how will you advance it?
I plan to work closely with our City Manager and City Planner to address any concerns involving transportation and infrastructure. There are many areas in our City that are not a great distance apart. We are lucky to have a relatively small area. I think that more work needs to be put into a functional public transportation option that more citizens will have access to. Everything done has to fit into the yearly fiscal budget so fund raisers and community events needs to be utilized to build capital for any projects. Our current Council is dedicated to keeping property taxes down for our residents and that is always going to be our biggest concern when addressing development.

What strategies will you use to ensure open communication between City Hall and residents?
I think that city hall already has an open door policy. They also have standards in place to allow any citizen to speak openly at council meetings. The disconnect I believe is that not everyone knows about this. I think that more connections need to be made away from city hall so that people have an in to come and speak. There are too many people who don't have the confidence or the knowledge, I want to use my platform to make everyone aware of how our local government works so that they will all use their voice to make a change.

Plans to expand outreach beyond City Hall and educate residents about local government so they can participate.

Public Services

What are your top environmental and land development concerns and how do you plan to address them?
The biggest concerns that I have right now are Data Centers and Dirty development. I think that everything proposed for The Colony should have a large level of scrutiny applied, because something might be financially beneficial that does not make it beneficial to our citizens. We need to be mindful of our limited resources and build accordingly.

Calls for scrutiny of proposed development, including data centers and “dirty development,” based on whether it benefits residents.
