She was educated at Penn State where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, and obtained her master’s degree at A.T. Still University of Health Sciences in Mesa, Arizona.

While completing her master’s thesis, she promoted health care for student athletes and studied concussion-related injuries at high schools in the Phoenix area. Senator Muth most recently served as an adjunct professor of kinesiology at a local university, while also practicing sports medicine.

First elected to office in 2018, Senator Katie Muth is a passionate advocate for change.

In November 2022, Senator Muth was elected to her second term representing the 44th Senatorial District which includes parts of Chester, Montgomery and Berks County. She also served two sessions as part of Senate Democratic Leadership as the Chair of the Senate Democratic Policy Committee.

Katie currently serves as a Pennsylvania state senator representing the 44th Senatorial District. She was first elected in 2018 and was elected to a second term in 2022.

Harrisburg, Pa. − June 18, 2026 − To put more money back in working families’ pockets, Pennsylvania State Senators Maria Collett (D-12), Lindsey Williams (D-38), Christine Tartaglione (D-2) and Katie Muth (D-44) have introduced legislation to increase Pennsylvania’s Child and Dependent Care Enhancement Tax Credit, aligning the state credit with changes to the federal credit.

Under current state law, Pennsylvania does not automatically conform to changes made to the federal program. This legislation would ensure the state credit families receive will match the enhanced federal credit.

Senator Muth reiterated that Senate Bill 1359, which establishes a three year moratorium on new hyperscale data centers, remains the most comprehensive proposal before the General Assembly because it creates the time needed to fully evaluate the statewide impacts before irreversible decisions are made.

“A moratorium is what responsible governance would be right now,” Muth said. “Once these facilities are approved and built, Pennsylvania cannot simply undo the impacts on our electric grid, water resources, or surrounding communities. We have one opportunity to get this right.”

“If a bill allows massive hyperscale data centers to move forward without meaningful statewide setbacks from homes, schools, hospitals, and drinking water resources, it is not protecting communities,” Muth said. “If it relies on promises that developers will simply bring their own power while ignoring the enormous impacts on land use, water consumption, public health, emergency services, and local infrastructure, it is not a real solution.”
