Armanini contacted Pennsylvania's U.S. senators and a member of Congress concerning a 50% tariff on copper-based powder imports. “I support at least temporarily removing the tariff rate to help stabilize this industry, which reaches into so many other aspects of manufacturing. The average person doesn’t realize how powder metals support everything from garden tools and household appliances to complex airplane and national defense needs,” Armanini said.

Armanini to Feds: Powder Metal Industry is Suffering

Armanini wrote that families should not be penalized for trying to keep children active and healthy. “That is why I am advocating for a sales tax holiday on football gear, including items like helmets, gloves and other equipment families need to outfit young players. This idea is simple: if we are going to celebrate football on the biggest stage in Pittsburgh this week, we should also make it easier for Pennsylvania families to afford participation in the sport next week.”

Let's Draft Some Tax Relief

Discussing the 2026-27 state budget, Armanini said: “We negotiated this budget in a way that helps working families and does not rely on the Rainy Day Fund to do so. That is a ‘win’ for Pennsylvania,” Armanini said. “We were able to make significant investments in key priorities while also keeping spending growth in check and avoiding broad-based tax increases.”

As part of an 11-bill package intended to lower electricity costs and expand energy production, Armanini is working on legislation affecting environmental permitting. Armanini’s measure would require that all permit appeals before the Environmental Hearing Board be heard within one year. He cited a proposed energy generation project in Clinton County that was scrapped due to uncertainty caused by appeals.

Armanini and Representative Dallas Kephart jointly responded to an amended House Bill 1042, which concerned sentencing for second-degree murder and included opportunities for some inmates to seek medical release. Their joint statement said: “House Bill 1042, which we supported in its original form as a way of building on Pennsylvania’s commitment to reducing recidivism, instead could prematurely open the prison cell doors for society’s worst offenders, which currently hold death row inmates and men like Jerry Sandusky.”

Legislation authored by Armanini to strengthen police officers' ability to detect fentanyl and other dangerous drugs received unanimous approval in the Senate. House Bill 1344 would establish certification standards for law enforcement K-9 units trained to detect fentanyl, helping ensure police dogs across Pennsylvania meet consistent training and performance benchmarks to alert for the synthetic opioid.

On House Bill 1344, which would set certification standards for fentanyl-detection law-enforcement K-9 units, Armanini said: “Fentanyl continues to devastate families and communities across Pennsylvania, and law enforcement needs every available tool to combat this crisis,” Armanini said. “Establishing clear certification standards for trained dogs will help officers identify and remove these deadly drugs from our streets.”

After raising concerns about deferring a month of Medicaid managed-care payments to balance the state budget, Armanini said: “Pennsylvania must continue to pursue structurally balanced budgets that protect taxpayers and provide long-term financial stability,” he said. “We also need to do more to promote baseload energy production and make the state more industry friendly.”
