Tim was first elected in 2020 to represent the 17th Legislative District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

As a state representative, Tim is fully prepared for the challenge to represent residents’ interests on the floor of the State House, just as he has represented our interests in the courtrooms of Pennsylvania; the halls of state, county and local government; and the board rooms of hospitals, corporations and charitable institutions. He is committed to fighting for a balanced budget, supporting policies that generate and protect family-sustaining jobs, protecting our rights of the Second Amendment and fighting for the rights of the unborn.

HARRISBURG – Rep. Tim Bonner (R-Mercer/Butler) issued the following statement in response to Gov. Josh Shapiro’s $53.26 billion budget proposal for the 2026-27 fiscal year.

“The budget set forth by Gov. Josh Shapiro represents another reckless step towards fiscal disaster for Pennsylvania.

For three years, I have warned about the fiscal crisis facing the Commonwealth under Gov. Shapiro’s tenure. When he assumed office in 2023, our state had two reserve funds, the General Reserve Fund containing $8 billion and the Rainy Day Reserve Fund containing $7.5 billion.

Bonner: Shapiro's Spending Dream Would Be Pennsylvania's Pricey Nightmare

We are left with a spend-all governor who has higher ambitions at the expense of Pennsylvania citizens.

We should now be prepared for a lengthy budget battle since the governor’s plan relies on draining our reserves and implementing speculative tax revenue sources from recreational marijuana and skilled games instead of responsible, sustainable tax.

The governor’s address is the beginning of the annual budgetary process. The budget will be thoroughly analyzed during three weeks of House Appropriations hearings beginning Feb. 23. For more information on the 2026-27 state budget, go to PABudget.com.

“Mercer County Career Center plays an important role in preparing young people for real careers, whether they choose to enter the workforce after graduation or continue their education,” Bonner said. “This funding will help ensure students are learning on modern equipment that reflects the tools and technology being used by employers right here in our region.”

The center offers CTE programs designed to help students gain technical and workplace skills in fields such as manufacturing, health care, service and retail, transportation and other high-demand career areas.

“Pennsylvania is the nation’s third leading producer of natural gas,” Bonner said. “Our energy production adds greatly to the economy, our national defense and our energy independence. It also adds significant revenue to our state treasury and local governments. We are fortunate to have abundant clean energy in our Commonwealth which also supports government services.”

HARRISBURG – Rep. Tim Bonner (R-Mercer/Butler) introduced a resolution he believes can be the first step in creating a uniform bail process across Pennsylvania.

House Resolution 519 calls for the Pennsylvania Sentencing Commission to gather data from all 67 Pennsylvania counties and develop fair, consistent bail setting recommendations to assist courts across the Commonwealth.

Bonner Introduces Resolution to Establish Uniform Bail Standards in Pennsylvania

Bonner noted that the lack of uniform standards has led to significant inconsistencies in how bail is set across Pennsylvania’s 67 counties.

“The unpredictable setting of bail by the courts has caused significant complaints as to racial, gender, age and income bias,” Bonner said. “House Resolution 519 is meant to bring fairness and justice to the setting of bail across Pennsylvania so that the accused’s constitutional rights are protected and the victim and the community have confidence that their safety and welfare are at the forefront of the proceedings in our criminal justice system.”
