Mike Murphy

Buket Urgen

With the support of his wife, Mike chose to go back to school and pursue a degree in nursing – a field that intrigued him since an early childhood accident sent him to the hospital to save a severely injured finger. Accepted to the Episcopal School of Nursing, Mike was eventually selected Class President where he led a tough battle to ensure a quality education and faculty for him and his fellow students.

Taking a job with 84 Lumber, Mike’s dedication quickly resulted in him being promoted to store management – using his personal skills to help drive sales growth and make his store more successful than ever before. Despite this success and the fact he was now able to enjoy financial independence for his family, Mike wasn’t happy because he was spending too much time away from wife, Marianne, and their two young daughters. So Mike switched careers and went to work for the U.S.
Postal Service for the next decade – including as a Union Representative – and spending time with his wife and two daughters, and even adding two more daughters to the mix!

Mike Murphy studied nursing at the Episcopal School of Nursing. He is married and is a father of four daughters.

Mike’s first job was at Seafood America in Bensalem. He was just 16 years old. Today, he still keeps in touch with the former owner. From there, Mike became a truck driver for a sheet metal fabrication company – a job originally made more difficult because he didn’t know how to drive a stick shift. But he learned and thrived in the job. Whatever it takes.

Upon earning his degree, Mike chose to become a Critical Care Nurse – the same type of nurse who had helped him so many years ago.

As his nursing career advanced, Mike moved on to work for the Veterans’ Affairs Medical Center in Philadelphia. Chosen for his proven leadership skills, Mike has become a deeply trusted member of the medical team there, and volunteered for some of the hardest assignments out there, including being a member of the Disaster Emergency Management Team that gets deployed across the nation when disaster strikes.
