Minimum Wage

We must raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. The benefits of a $15 minimum wage would be far-reaching, lifting pay for so many Pennsylvanian workers and helping reverse decades of growing pay inequality. I promise that I'll continue fighting to increase the minimum wage.

Education

Education is the foundation for our children’s success. I have brought millions of dollars back to the Allentown School District, but we must continue working toward education funding equity. As the Education Chair, I continue to lead the fight for fully and fairly funded public schools in Pennsylvania.

Crafted a State Board of Higher Education to create scholarships, expand higher-education pathways, and help control long-term higher-education costs.

In his role as Education Chair, Peter also crafted the biggest change to Pennsylvania’s system of higher education in nearly four decades, creating new scholarships and immediate new pathways to higher education while helping to control the cost of higher education in the long term through the creation of the State Board of Higher Education.

Education

In addition to his work in education policy, Rep. Schweyer has authored legislation that has helped the Lehigh Valley’s craft beer, wine, and spirits industry grow, has fought to protect our community from gun violence, and has been a leader on renewable energy, specifically community solar.

Advocates for investments in perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances cleanup to protect drinking water and reduce costs for residents.

“This funding represents a vital step to ensure toxic ‘forever chemicals’ will not be in the drinking water in our homes and schools,” said Schweyer, D-Lehigh. “Removing PFAS is quite expensive. This funding will not only keep homeowners and residents safe, but also helps relieve them from the financial burden. I’m proud to support the Borough of Emmaus and will continue advocating for investments like this to protect the health and well-being of our residents.”

Public Safety

It is always a goal to make sure our law enforcement and first responders have the tools they need to keep our families and children safe. We helped them through the COVID-19 pandemic, and we’ll continue to ensure they have what they need for our neighborhoods.

Schweyer served for nearly six years as a member of Allentown City Council, including a stint as Council President. His accomplishments there include reforming the city’s finances and pension, creating a highly successful gun buyback program, and crafting the city’s comprehensive anti-graffiti law.
