2026 Pennsylvania General Election 

The enacted 2024-25 General Fund budget created a $3.6 billion structural deficit. Gov. Josh Shapiro’s 2025-26 budget proposal, by his own numbers, would increase the deficit to $4.9 billion and deplete the surplus and much of the Rainy Day Fund to cover continued overspending.

Over the past two years, credit rating agencies upgraded Pennsylvania’s credit rating, saving taxpayers millions of dollars. Those agencies cited increased reserves in the Rainy Day Fund as a main reason for the rating upgrades. Prudent fiscal management requires protecting this fund and avoiding tax increases to fuel more overspending.

The governor has not yet presented a budget proposal that has gained agreement from all chambers. As negotiations continue, I am committed to seeing that one-time money is not used for reoccurring expenses.

“I have been fighting this from every level available to me,” Ryncavage said. “I voted for a six-month moratorium on data center development, to eliminate the sales tax exemption on data center equipment, and to require reporting of data center water and electricity usage. I cannot undo an April vote of the Newport Township commissioners from Harrisburg, but I can use every resource available to my office to make sure residents understand their rights and continue working at the state level to protect our communities and utility ratepayers.”

NANTICOKE – Rep. Alec Ryncavage (R-Luzerne) is pleased to announce the formation of the West Side Regional Police Commission, a commission that will oversee the creation and operation of the brand-new West Side Regional Police Department. The department will launch Jan. 1, 2026, and will support Edwardsville and Larksville boroughs.

This effort marks a historic collaboration aimed at improving public safety, enhancing service and delivering more cost-effective policing for residents of both communities.

With regionalization, we create efficiencies, free up funding for other needs, and allow officers to grow into specialized roles—whether it’s investigations, traffic safety or community engagement.”
