Crowell told council he would like to see the town budget money to build a dock on town property near the dam so residents of Tryon can put in and take out kayaks and so Tryon residents can have a fishing area. “I would just like to see that for the future of the lake,” Crowell said. During last week’s meeting, commissioner Bill Ingham said he agreed with Crowell that town residents should have access to the lake.

The historic designation ordinance is a zoning regulation that preserves the town’s unique character by requiring property owners to obtain a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Tryon Historic Preservation Commission before making significant exterior changes to their properties. Commissioners Skip Crowe, Julie Lambakis, and Bill Crowell voted in favor of the ordinance, while Tracy Greenway Morris voted against it. Mayor Alan Peoples spoke in favor of the ordinance.
