Commissioner Smith asked to say a few words. He started by saying he believes in being completely transparent. Commissioner Smith made a motion for our town to keep the Oakboro Police Department in its current state, that we appoint Assistant Chief Eschert as Interim Chief of Oakboro Police Department to allow Assistant Chief Eschert to help fill the open vacancies as soon as possible in order to rebuild the department to full capacity, that Assistant Chief Eschert be in charge of scheduling and all aspects of running and overseeing the duties of Oakboro Police Department and finally that the vacancy of the Oakboro Police Chief be posted by the end of the week. Commissioner Carpenter seconded. The vote was 3 for and 2 against with Commissioner Jackson agreeing with Commissioners Smith and Carpenter. Commissioners Hathcock and Barbee voted against. The motion carried.
