Commissioner Held was sworn in on April 8th, 2024. He moved to East Bend in the early 90s and onto my wife's family farm. Our house was built in approximately 1903 and we are part of six generations of East Bend residences. I served on the zoning board about 15 years ago and have coached several town youth sports teams. Our family is very proud to call East Bend "home" and I consider it a honor to serve the town.

6. Commissioner Held brought up the Daniel Boone Marker. He would like to move it to the park side and redo it to preserve it for the Town. He will get quotes and bring them back to the board.

The Board received a reply from the Friends of the East Bend Town Square in response to the Town’s letter addressing the covering of the handicap signs during events at the East Bend Town Square. The Board discussed the contents of the letter and Chief Shore stated that there has to be one handicap spot per every 25 parking spots and that the Town met that requirement without the two spots at the East Bend Town Square. Commissioner Held made a motion to allow the Friends of the Town Square to have control and the ability to cover the handicap signs at the Town Square when they are hosting events at the Town Square. Commissioner Venable seconded. The motion carried 4-0.

9. Chief Shore and Attorney Epley presented a document that states the guidelines for the SRO Officer. The SRO contract from the County was presented to the board to adopt. The county is waiting on a Grant for the SRO position. This will need to be redone every two years. Commissioner Norman made a motion to adopt the memorandum of understanding from the county. Commissioner Held Seconded. Motion carried 5-0.

Public Safety

Linda Norman voiced concerns as to the condition of Blanch St, and asked when or if it would be paved. Commissioner Held assured her that this project is on the list of Street repairs. Due to the expense of this project which would include milling and removing old pavement, regrading to correct current water run off issues, and then repairing, the town is currently setting aside funds to accomplish this project correctly.

7. Commissioner Nichols has contacted Hennings Construction about clearing the land around the Sewer Plant. The trees are overgrown and affect the performance of the sewer plant. Commissioner Nichols made a motion to go ahead with Hennings Construction to do the clearing. Commissioner Held Seconed. Motion carried 5-0.
