Sprung from the roots of an apple farm, Bearwallow Valley Farms has been providing Western North Carolina and Update South Carolina locals with beautifully grown produce for over 80 years. As a fourth-generation farmer and Registered Dietitian, the Costons have transformed a portion of the apple orchards into a diversified farm with a variety of produce.
Nicole Coston, a Registered Dietitian, wanted to be sure her CSA customers had access to a full range of healthy food. She dedicated herself to connecting with other local farmers and bringing their bounty to more families.
Brent Coston graduated from Clemson University with a degree in Industrial Management. Although he did not immediately return to the farm, the land called him back. Now, he oversees the apple orchards as Farm Manager and works hand-in-hand with his wife, Nicole, to operate Bearwallow Valley Farms.

Together, Brent, Nicole, and their children continue tending the land and living sustainably, just as their grandparents did. The Coston’s have dedicated themselves to sustainable agriculture through a number of practices, including crop diversification, natural soil supplementation, intercropping, and row covering as pest deterrents. The farm includes a beautiful cut flower garden bordering their fields to encourage beneficial insects and bee pollination.
