Born and raised on her family’s farm in Guilford County, N.C., a recognized Century Farm that has been in her family since 1878, she learned the value of working the land at an early age—along with its challenges—from a long line of tobacco farmers.

Grace currently works as a state program assistant for Virginia State University's Small Farm Outreach Program and owns and manages Summers Farms. She previously worked as an extension associate and greenhouse manager at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and as a research technician at North Carolina State University.

Grace currently serves as a supervisor on the Guilford County Soil and Water Conservation District. She was appointed to fill an unexpired elected term beginning in 2023.

“I love my career,” said Summers. “The thing I like most about my job is seeing a farmer become successful because of something I helped them implement or do on their farm.” Indeed, if time and resources were not an issue, Summers would like to see more one-on-one time invested in new farmers to provide them with more technical tips for growing and sustaining their crops and farm enterprises.
