PAMLICO COUNTY - In a very close race, newcomer Chris Davis has beaten incumbent Billy Sawyer Jr. to become the new Pamlico County sheriff. With 10 of 10 precincts reporting, the Republican Davis received 2,757 votes (51.18 percent), compared with Sawyer's 2,630 votes (48.82 percent).
