Sheriff J. Kevin Jones said the department applied for the Sentara Cares grant because deputies are often the first to arrive on emergency scenes.

“Our county covers a huge territory, and EMS response can take time simply because of the distance,” said Sheriff Jones. “If one of my deputies gets to a cardiac emergency before EMS, and that happens often, we need to be able to start lifesaving measures right away. These AEDs give us that chance.”

The five AEDs will be deployed across the patrol fleet, ensuring that deputies on routine patrol or responding to calls have immediate access to the devices.

Urged businesses and residents to inspect large-denomination bills and report suspected counterfeit currency to the sheriff's office.

In a Facebook post dated Feb. 17, Camden County Sheriff J. Kevin Jones said a local business reported that a fake $100 bill was used during a transaction. The business owner did not realize the money was counterfeit until attempting to use it later.

Sheriff Jones said one person has already been charged this year with passing fake money at another local business.

He urged business owners and the public to carefully inspect large denomination bills and to contact the Camden County Sheriff’s Office if they suspect counterfeit currency...
