- District Court judges hear civil, criminal, and juvenile cases. Civil cases dealing with divorce, child custody, and child support are heard in District Court. 
- Under the District Court, the magistrate can try small claims cases ($10,000 or less), landlord eviction cases, and suits for recovery of personal property. A magistrate is an independent judicial officer, recognized by the North Carolina Constitution as an officer of the district court.

Beth S. Dixon has a bachelor s degree in politics from Converse College, a law degree from the University of South Carolina, and a master s degree in legal practice from Nottingham Law School in England. She and her husband, Glenn, have four adult children.

Beth is a district court judge for the 19C Judicial District in North Carolina. She was appointed to the court in January 2002. Before her appointment, she served as an assistant district attorney for the Rowan County District Attorney's Office from 2000 to 2002. She also previously worked as an attorney in private practice and as an attorney advocate for Rowan County Guardian ad Litem. 

Beth is currently a district court judge for North Carolina's 19C Judicial District. She was first appointed to the court in January 2002. She is currently the chief district judge for North Carolina's Judicial District 27.
