- District Court judges hear civil, criminal, and juvenile cases. Civil cases dealing with divorce, child custody, and child support are heard in District Court. 
- Under the District Court, the magistrate can try small claims cases ($10,000 or less), landlord eviction cases, and suits for recovery of personal property. A magistrate is an independent judicial officer, recognized by the North Carolina Constitution as an officer of the district court. 
- District Court Judges are elected for a four-year term. Elections are partisan.

Margaret is a district court judge for North Carolina's 10th Judicial District. She has served on the bench since 2009 and was appointed chief district court judge for Wake County in 2024. Before taking the bench, she worked as an attorney at Larcade & Heiskell, PLLC from 2004 to 2010. She also served as an assistant attorney general for the North Carolina Department of Justice from 2001 to 2005.

Who's Running For Wake County District Attorney And Sheriff?

Margaret is currently a district court judge for North Carolina District Court District 10D. She was first elected in 2008 and re-elected in 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022. She ran for the North Carolina Court of Appeals in 2016 but did not win.

As a district court judge, Eagles oversees civil and criminal cases outside the jurisdiction of lower courts and exercises exclusive authority to grant divorces, annulments, and legal separations.
