Our conviction is that local food should be available to everybody. Our small farmers have a role to play, but they have to be compensated equitably for the food.

This year our goal was to be more intentional about our food work. Food pantries play an important role, but they aren’t the cure to hunger. We want to help insulate our food system by developing small farms in our area.

Despite our county’s strengths, too many families struggle with hunger, economic hardship, and the out of control costs of living in rural Appalachia. Hart believes the County Commission must take a more active role in addressing the root causes of poverty, supporting local nonprofits and community partners to ensure county resources are used strategically to improve quality of life for all residents.

That is not a Flock camera.
Flock cameras not only record video of what is happening, they also record every license plate that passes the camera and can easily track a car’s movements throughout the county. Does that really make us safer? Warrantless tracking of everyone, regardless of if they have or have not committed crimes does nothing to promote safety and security.

Mass surveillance has no home in Haywood County

The fact that there is a growing public outcry against Flock and similar cameras is heartening. The fact that in spite of such outcry, cameras continue to be installed at breakneck speed is deeply troubling. It's time for our leaders, municipal, county, state, and federal, to put the rights of everyday citizens over the desires of private companies. It's time they remember that all those in the United States have a right to privacy, to freedom of movement, and a right against unreasonable surveillance.
