Steve Ganley lives in Bear Creek, North Carolina. He volunteered as an election official at the Goldston polling location and later served as chief judge.

Field Service Engineer for Digital Equipment Corporation in Santa Clara, Ca.

Went through mergers with Compaq, HP, HP Enterprise, Unisys due to my customer oriented skills.

Maintained my DOD security clearance for many years after my Honorable discharge from the United States Navy.

Having worked in the private sector of the IT for 37 ½ years I decided to retire.

MY MILITARY HISTORY

1977-1983

Six years United States Navy. Achieved the rank of E-6. The fastest possible rank promotion allowed under regulations.

Became an instructor in Pensacola, Fla. Teaching computer maintenance. Received Navy Achievement, Good Conduct and Expeditionary Medals.

Steve is retired. He previously worked as a field service engineer for Digital Equipment Corporation and its successor companies. He served in the U.S. Navy for six years as a Cryptologic Technician Maintenance Petty Officer First Class (E-6).

### Transparent Spending

Clear visibility into how your taxpayer dollars are spent
I refer to what’s going on in Chatham County as Empire/Legacy building. Whatever the cost or sacrifice by the residents will justify the methods (the ends justifies’ the means) to make sure Chatham County is molded into the desired culture that mirrors the ideology of all current members of the Board of Commissioners. Anyone knows, as high as our government in Washington D.C. pass spending bills with hidden items that you would not agree with.
You could find out but as one famous majority congress leader said “We have to pass the bill to find out what’s in it – away from the fog of controversy”. I’ve found an item (I’m sure there a many more) most of the citizens didn’t know existed. You need a representative, or preferably three, who will go line item by line item and make sure the tax payers hard earned dollars are spent wisely. More important, inform the citizens of any possible abuse or fraud occurring in our county and allow us to push back. I will do that. It’s your money, not the counties. Allocate our money where we know it works, not on ideologies that have failed throughout history.

While the current members of our Board of Commissioners refer to the rapid change in Chatham County as progress, I whole heartedly disagree. What’s occurring is the irreversible alteration of a great culture and way of life.

### PROTECTION FOR OUR SENIORS

We have not done enough to assist those who made this county great.
To me, our senior citizen community is our most valuable resource. Their hard work, knowledge and wisdom deserve far more than insincere platitudes. Our country, and by extension, our county owes them a debt of gratitude for the contributions they’ve made to society. They should not be burdened with property taxes or petty expenses such as special access to county services. Especially those that invested a portion of their working salaries over a lifetime and are living on a fixed income.
Fear of losing your home should never happen because you can’t pay your property taxes. Either lower their property taxes or eliminate them altogether. I also believe the Chatham transit system can be more flexible regarding charges for our seniors.

Citizens must have immediate disclosure of future projects
The land developers and corporations with their attorneys are here in full force. Enbridge Natural Gas Co., VinFast, Tri River Water, Eco Tip Moncure data center. Also, the housing developments planned or in the process of being built. As citizens of Chatham County, I’d expect our Board of Commissioner members to give us ample notification of these planned changes so we could voice our approval or disapproval. Even if these life/culture altering decisions are made by higher up government authorities.

We must push back against outside government influence.
Not only have the state legislators surrendered our property rights under “Eminent Domain” laws, but our current Board of Commissioners in Chatham County are not notifying the affected citizens immediately when major decisions are made. A perfect example would be the “Enbridge” (ENGC) pipeline. Our current Board of Commissioner members might deny this. Either they’re not telling the truth or they’re too incompetent to do the job of representing their constituents.
We have landowners (our neighbors) who were notified when the surveying will begin via regular mail. At the very least, our local representatives should have given us an immediate notification/warning about the impact this project may have on private property and the environment. We then would’ve been able to mobilize earlier to voice our displeasure, directed at the state legislators, with the route of the pipeline and the pipeline in general.

Same goes for the “Meals on Wheels” program. I’m very proud of those that volunteer their time for this organization.

### ENVIRONMENTAL OVERREGULATION

Unfortunately this has become more about political power and less about the environment.
I’ve never had a conversation with anyone who’s admitted to not caring about the environment. It’s become an issue that’s one of the top subjects around the world today. And rightfully so. The United States leads the world of developed countries when it comes to curbing pollution. The rural land owners of Chatham County are also deeply committed to the preservation of our natural resources. There are also government regulations to ensure the protection of these resources.
But some government agencies can become draconian. As a consequence, they trend toward overregulation. This can create a burden on businesses and farmers. A full review of the county environmental agency policies should be looked into to make sure there is no government overreach.

Electing Chatham County commissioners by district—rather than at-large—centers on the fundamental principle of fair representation. This approach ensures that every community, especially those with differing viewpoints, has a meaningful voice in local government decisions. By adopting district-based voting, residents in areas like districts 4 and 5 can feel confident that their perspectives will be accounted for and reflected in the Board of Commissioner’s funding and policy decisions.

All citizens of Chatham County, regardless of party affiliation should be concerned about the speed at which the NG Pipeline, VinFast, Data Center, Housing Developments, etc. are being shoved down our throats with no regard for the property rights and monopolization of our natural resources. The liberal/ radical democrats currently hold all five BOC seats. I am running for district 5 as a conservative voice and John Crowell is running for district 4. We must have balance. Please support both of us so you will have a voice on November 3rd about the future of Chatham County before it is too late. The choice is up to you.
