I’m not just serving on the school board—I’m a District 2 mom with a recent graduate and two sons currently in our public schools. I’ve experienced Wake County Public Schools as a student, a teacher, an advocate, and a parent. I know what’s working, and I know what must change for our children to truly thrive.

I am a Raleigh native and a product of WCPSS. I owe my love of public schools to my late grandmother, a WCPSS educator and administrator. Today, I am a fierce public school advocate raising three sons (who all attend WCPSS) with my husband.

Christina's greatest joy comes from the support and love from her family. When she isn't serving on the Board, Christina continues her work as a Professional Learning Specialist at the North Carolina Association of Educators, building joyful, healing-centered spaces for the next generation of educators.

The Wake County Board of Education appointed her Tuesday on a six-to-two vote. It followed six rounds of voting in which board members were largely split over three different candidates: Gordon, former school system administrator Caroletta Daniels and former teacher and principal Brady Kocher.

Christina Gordon, District 2 incumbent, was appointed to the school board in early 2025 after longtime former board member Monika Johnson-Hostler was elected to the state House of Representatives.

This is Gordon’s first run for a full term.

Stacy Huffman, a senior director in the special education services department, said the higher student ratios would create additional paperwork for special education teachers, because they are legally required to document progress on their students' individual education plans.

Christina Gordon voted against the budget.

"This is an urgent time," Gordon said during the board's Tuesday work session. "From my viewpoint, we cannot wait until next budget. So I respectfully ask that we ask for more."

In her interview, Gordon said more families need to be eligible to apply to more magnet schools, which she said are big difference-makers for families. As a board member, she said she’d like to revisit the rules around magnet schools. Other applicants made similar criticisms.

Gordon, a mother of three school system students, has been a professional learning specialist for the North Carolina Association of Educators since May. From 2006 until 2023, she was a teacher, serving in at different times in both the Wake County school system at Durham Public Schools as an elementary school teacher. Gordon wants to ensure schools are inclusive communities, create a “family engagement center” at every school, and create “learning labs driven by student interests.”
