Somnath Ghimire received his bachelor's degree in communication and media studies from Queens College. 

Somnath is an advocate and community organizer. He has worked with the Nepali American and broader South Asian communities in Queens for over two decades. He previously served as a field supervisor for the 2020 Census. He also participated in human rights missions to 22 countries through the International Institute for Human Rights, Environment and Development (INHURED International). Somnath is currently the president of the Girija Prasad Koirala Foundation America and the Jackson Heights chapter of the Alliance of South Asian American Labor (ASAAL). He has also volunteered on numerous national, state, and local Democratic campaigns, including the presidential campaigns of Joe Biden, Barack Obama, and Bill Clinton.

Somnath is the president of the GPK Foundation, a non-profit think tank. He previously worked as an assistant manager at A&P Hospitality, LLC.
