Edward Irizarry earned his bachelor's degree in English literature and philosophy from New York University and his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School.

He previously worked as a counsel to the senate committee on consumer protection at the New York State Senate, a legislative counsel with the New York City Council, an assistant district attorney with the Queens District Attorney's Office, and a legal intern with the U.S. Attorneys' Office. 

Edward Irizarry is a former member of the New Jersey General Assembly representing the 35th Legislative District. He was elected in 2007 and served one term from 2008 to 2010. In the 2009 election, he lost his seat to Republican candidate Scott Rumana.
