Darnell Tagaloa earned a degree in civil engineering from the University of Louisville. He is a father of three.

Darnell works at Clark Distributing Company. He previously worked as a Territory Account Manager for G & J Pepsi-Cola Bottlers for over a year, a Business Development Manager at iHeartMedia for over a year, and an Account Manager at Coca-Cola for over eight years.

Darnell previously ran for Lexington council member in 2022 and 2024 but did not win. This is his first run for mayor.

- The duties of the mayor depend on the type of government within the city, 
- If the city has a mayor-council form of government, the mayor is responsible for the executive and administrative functions of the government. They oversee all city departments, but cannot vote in most council matters. 
- If the city has a mayor-aldermen form of government, the mayor is responsible for executing and enforcing local and state laws. The mayor may appoint city officials with approval from the aldermen.
