Wants city growth managed so infrastructure keeps pace and neighborhoods improve.

Announcing his mayoral campaign, McDaniel said: “I believe we are at a crossroads where we need to transition from just ‘managing’ growth to ‘mastering’ it. I want to ensure that as our city expands, our infrastructure keeps pace, neighborhoods improve, and city employees are truly valued and supported.”

Public Safety

Calls for city social-media posts to allow resident comments and for the city to take legitimate concerns seriously.

McDaniel said Richmond should allow residents to comment on the city's social-media posts and take legitimate resident concerns seriously. He said: “I also don't think it's right that the City doesn't allow comments on social media. That's the people's Facebook page, even though the City manages it. The people have the right to be able to make a comment on something and not be restricted or muffled by the City that's supposed to be representing them. If you have a citizen that has a legitimate concern, why shouldn’t that person be able to make comments? And why shouldn’t the City take that seriously?”

McDaniel calls out City's 'lack of transparency', says he can work with Newby

Pledges to maintain an open-door policy and be available to residents.

Asked how his administration would differ if elected, McDaniel said: “It’d be an open door policy. Being available, that’s the main thing. The most important thing is being there for the people whenever they need you. Whenever you need me I’ll be there.”

Public Services

Prioritizes municipal services, roads, and sidewalks for Richmond residents.

Discussing Richmond's development and municipal priorities, McDaniel said: “We need to get back on track where it’s just Richmond first. We should take care of our citizens, our infrastructure, provide the people of Richmond with what we’re supposed to be providing them as far as the proper municipal services, good roads to drive on, good sidewalks to walk on, that’s our responsibility. We haven’t done that in a long time.”

Transportation & Infrastructure

Wants city employees to be valued and supported as Richmond grows.

- The duties of the mayor depend on the type of government within the city,
- If the city has a mayor-council form of government, the mayor is responsible for the executive and administrative functions of the government. They oversee all city departments, but cannot vote in most council matters.
- If the city has a mayor-aldermen form of government, the mayor is responsible for executing and enforcing local and state laws. The mayor may appoint city officials with approval from the aldermen.
- If the city has a mayor-commission form of government, the mayor presides over the city commissioners and can vote within the commission. The mayor is responsible for executing all decisions reached by the commission.
- If the city has a city manager form of government, the mayor presides over the city commissioners and can vote within the commission. The mayor is recognized as the head of the city department but does not have any regular administrative duties.
- City mayors are elected during general elections for a four-year term. Most cities in Kentucky hold nonpartisan elections for mayor.
