Hagan reflects on his fondest memories of the festival. They all center around one thing—the people. “Since I became mayor about eight years ago, I’ve had three girls, all under the age of 7, and each year I take one of them up on stage to introduce our opening act.” It is a way to connect family and the wider community, to link the next generation who will inherit the festival to those who currently run it and love it.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- More police officers will soon be on the streets of Lyndon after a merger with a local police department allowed the city to create its own.

The Graymoor-Devondale Police Department is now known at the Lyndon Police Department. The announcement was made Tuesday with Lyndon Mayor Brent Hagan and Chief Grady Throneberry.
"We feel we can tailor services to meet the needs of our community and its residents," Hagan said. "We can provide a visible presence in our community."

From the beginning we debated
the rationale and cost-effective
reasons for acquiring our neighbor department. We assessed all available
options for meeting the community’s policing needs, including alternative
ways to provide all or select services as well as what resources we
had available to convert into police use.

While we are constantly working to improve
and expand upon the previous department, one action needed to be taken,
change in leadership. The Lyndon City council approved the appointment of former
Deputy Chief Robert Schroeder, to Chief and former Major Christopher
Thomas was promoted to Deputy. I believe our officers are now in a better
position to police our community in a more responsive and impactful
manner.

"It's an honor to have this library in Lyndon,” said Lyndon Mayor Brent Hagan. “We hope that you use the space. Schedule meetings here, meet people for coffee. Take the kids for story time, find a quiet place to write or watch a cooking demonstration. I know it sounds crazy, but you could even check out a book!"

A lot of planning goes into this festival beyond vendor placements. “The day after the festival from that year, we start talking about what we’re going to do next year, and how we can make it different; we consider things we’ve noticed, or comments or feedback that we got from people on the ground,” he says. “We just take those comments and criticisms to heart, working toward making it bigger and better every year. So, we try to outdo ourselves every time.”

“The festival started in the early 1990s as a way to showcase local businesses, artists and vendors, giving them a platform to share their work with the community,” says Brent Hagan, who has served as Lyndon’s mayor for about eight years. “It’s organized with the support of the City of Lyndon and strengthens our sense of togetherness while attracting visitors who boost our local economy.”

- The duties of the mayor depend on the type of government within the city,
- If the city has a mayor-council form of government, the mayor is responsible for the executive and administrative functions of the government. They oversee all city departments, but cannot vote in most council matters.
- If the city has a mayor-aldermen form of government, the mayor is responsible for executing and enforcing local and state laws. The mayor may appoint city officials with approval from the aldermen.
- If the city has a mayor-commission form of government, the mayor presides over the city commissioners and can vote within the commission. The mayor is responsible for executing all decisions reached by the commission.
- If the city has a city manager form of government, the mayor presides over the city commissioners and can vote within the commission. The mayor is recognized as the head of the city department but does not have any regular administrative duties.
- City mayors are elected during general elections for a four-year term. Most cities in Kentucky hold nonpartisan elections for mayor.
