Magistrate David Livingston shares, “Working with public entities in my career, I see on a regular basis the danger of being hacked or held by ransomware. This Cyber Security grant is another example of how Scott County Government staff, Judge Covington and the Fiscal Court search for federal or state funds to cover costs of important projects to protect taxpayers.

This allows our locally collected tax dollars to continue working on quality of life issues and keep some of the lowest county tax rates in Kentucky.”

Magistrate Chad Wallace said, “Being awarded the cybersecurity grant is phenomenal! This funding would allow the Scott County government to be able to protect sensitive information, operate our systems with the highest levels of security, and further affirm the citizens’ trust with their government.”

Judge Executive Joe Pat Covington states, “I am proud of the Fiscal Courts efforts to be proactive in pursuing this grant to do all we can to protect our vital network infrastructure from cyber attack and hacking. This award will allow us to use general fund dollars in other areas of need for the county. I appreciate the work of Chip Clark and Michele Ray and all of our staff that make our grant applications competitive.”

Notably, the minutes of the BOA hearing contained a statement from an official in neighboring Scott County:
Chad Wallace, Magistrate in Scott County, publicly presented a letter from Chase Azevedo, General Manager of Georgetown Municipal Water Sewer Service, Mayors of Midway and Versailles; Joe Covington, Scott County Judge Executive and Mayor Tom Prather of Georgetown. Mr. Wallace summarized the letter of record. Mr. Wallace noted that Scott County and taxpayers of Georgetown have spent over 25 million dollars and the taxpayers of Kentucky have had to clean up the private wastewater facilities.
He does not want to see it happen in any community and hopes that the Board strongly consider denial of any Conditional Use Permit that would allow construction and operation of a private wastewater treatment plant.

- They oversee county infrastructure like roads, manage county property, conduct building inspections, issue permits, and operate the county jail.
- Each county features 3 to 8 districts, each electing 1 magistrate.
- Magistrates are elected for 4-year terms in partisan elections. Their salary caps at approximately $93,000 for full-time work, adjusted based on hours worked. The fiscal court determines this salary.
